Roostam Tiger is a Class Act

Yesterday I went to an event where fifteen amazing Israeli start-ups pitched their wares to a group of investors. Roostam Tןger was there (sitting on the left in the photo).

He had to be, he organized the event. 

Roostam was one of two people who persuaded me to get moving with Ourboox. Now we have a very exciting project. The least he could do was invite me to the event. He did. 

The event was called “Semyon Dukach in Israel”. 

I took a picture of the sign so I could remember. 

And this is a picture of the famous Semyon Dukach himself. 

He gave a pitch about himself and Techstars in Boston. They pick a dozen companies a year, mostly ones that have already succeeded in raising money and already have sales in the million dollar range. In short, already successful companies. 

He says that he helps them succeed even more. What else would you expect him to say? After all, he gets 6% of the companies’ common stock. 

He is also a very amusing guy. And that is worth a lot in itself. 

He was very polite throughout the whole event (except for a bit of yawning and texting). 

He even stayed for the very last pitch, the bottom of the ninth. Mine. Here it is:

I took my pitch very seriously (photo), gave a very good presentation, but he wasn’t interested. Ourboox doesn’t make any money yet, and we aren’t in his league. At least not yet.

We talked about working together. Who knows? This might turn out to be the best investment of all!

As the afternoon progressed, there were less and less people at the game. Some just pitched, struck out and left the ballpark. 

This is Michael Siebel. He wasn’t at the meeting at all. He is from Y combinator, the competitor of Techstar. I just thought you should know.

I stayed till the bitter end (I was the last). I heard about a lot of great new start-ups. I met ingenious people. I ate cookies and had coffee. And water, lots of water. 

Best of all, I came to my car and discovered….

…No parking ticket!!!!
