My Mum was only 18 when she had me. She was too young to have a child and was totally inexperienced. Due to my Dad’s job we lived in another city which was quite far from my grandparents. As Mum had no idea of looking after a baby, and even afraid of giving me a bath as she thought she would drown me. Therefore, she always needed my Nan’s help on regular basis. My Nan used to visit us a lot to take care of me so in the end I started living with my grandparents. They took care of me all my life. My Nan whom I called Mummy or Mamo, loved me as her own child, maybe more, so we developed a very strong bond. We were inseparable. She was devastated when I married and moved to the UK but kept in touch. Not a single weekend passed without talking to her. Also, I visited her almost every summer holiday. I lost my Mum to cancer a few years ago so my Nan was my everything. I always thought she was immortal so could not even think about she would pass away one day…..I lost my Nan in January 2017 which left a deep dark hole in my heart. She was not just my Nan, she was my best friend whom I would tell about everything, but not judged. She loved me unconditionally and shaped the person I am today.
