The sun was shining and the sky was blue,

but poor little Sophie didn’t know what to do-

Mom was at work, her friends were away

And she was alone on this bright sunny day.

2

First I’ll make pancakes, she thought to herself,

I’ll climb on the chair to reach the top shelf.

“Oh no!” Sophie screamed as she fell to the ground

With the flour and sugar- a real mess all around.

3

I’ll clean this real fast, I’ll eat yogurt instead

Then I’ll go play outside, by our old family shed.

I’ll play on the swings and slide down the slide

I’ll race with myself and find places to hide.

4

But Sophie the klutz found trouble indeed,

when she fell to the ground, and tripped over a weed

Her knee was all scraped, but Sophie knew what to do-

She ran to the house, found some strong sticky glue.

5

Like a nurse on a mission, Sophie cleaned up real fast

The next activity was painting, it would be a real blast.

She gathered her brushes, her paints and her colors

She got straight to work, didn’t need any others.

6

Her day had been fun, she’d done many things,

The pancakes, the swing set, the cut on her knees.

She painted and painted, got lost in her dreams

When all of a sudden she heard a loud scream.

7

“What in the world were you thinking?” said her loud, angry mother,

“You’ve destroyed the whole house with your paint and your color.

The kitchen is dirty, the house is a mess,

You have glue on your knee and blood on your dress!”

8

Sophie turned red, didn’t know what to do-

“I tried my best to have fun, but I needed you too!

I tried to make breakfast, to cook by myself,

but the flour high way up on the shelf!”

9

“I played by the shed, I had fun all alone,

but I tripped and I fell on a big dirty stone.

I cleaned up the mess, I didn’t even cry,

I washed all the dirt off, I really did try.”

10

“I was painting a picture to give you and dad,

Didn’t mean to make a mess, so please don’t be mad.”

“You’re right,” said her mom, trying to keep a straight face

It was hard not to laugh at the state of the place.

Evening approached, it had been a long day,

After cleaning the kitchen mom had one thing to say

“You had a rough day, you made some mistakes-

but now that I’m home, let’s make those pancakes.”
