In a beautiful living room, with a big glass door facing the street, the little girl sat watching the flakes of snow gently falling onto the front garden. Around her, the walls were as blue as the sky on a warm summer day and the room was simply furnished with dark wooden furniture and a comfortable pale red sofa. It was winter, but warm and cozy inside.
2
Suddenly, another little girl, with long golden tresses, pale skin but rosy cheeks skipped up to her. ‘Welcome, I have been waiting for you’. The little girl started to wonder where she was and how she had got there in the first place. Then she realised it was the girl’s house.
3
Suddenly, the rosy-cheeked girl looked out at the street and said: ‘Finally. Here they are.’ Again, the little girl wondered how and why she was there, and now how the other three boys were there too. That was when she saw a mirror and as she was looking into it, the girl said: ‘everyone who knows the way can come and live this adventure!’
4
The five children greeted each other, and as they looked into the mirror together, a door opened! Of course, what had made the little girl think it was a mirror? It had always been a door. They held hands happily and stepped through the doorway.
5
They first saw some stairs that led them to a place similar to an airport. A man was waiting at a building, all dressed in an elegant dark blue suit. ‘You must take this tram to go to your destination’. They did not ask anything and just got on board the tram. What great fun it was! Passing through a garden with giant trees, waterfalls with silvery water drops and endless cotton clouds that changed shape and talked to them as they passed.
6
They finally arrived at a station. It was abandoned, but they knew they had to get off, because it was the end of the line. Then, they went to a room, full of drawers all over the walls, from the floor to the ceiling. One of the boys said: ‘Look, there are drawers with our names written on them. Let’s open them.’
7
So, each one of the children opened the drawers…they were all afraid of what they might find inside, but to their surprise, as soon as they opened them, they were right back in their cosy living room.
8
What had happened? They looked at the door, but it was a mirror! Was all that only a dream they dreamt together? They could not stop wondering. Suddenly, the little girl felt in one of the pockets in her dress: it was a key for that drawer! It was so tiny, but it was the same drawer.
9
All the others checked their pockets and it was the same: the tiny little keys with their names. There were not sad anymore, for they knew it hadn’t just been a dream. They were all anxious to know what was inside the drawers as they somehow knew they could only open them when they would be alone.
10
Did she go back to the station on her own? How could she open the drawer?
11
When the little girl started to open her drawer, she opened her eyes and saw she was in her bedroom, with her window open and the morning sun shining on her face. It was a warm summer Sunday. She then realized it was all a dream after all. A dream inside a dream…
12
She felt disappointed, but at the same time happy to know she had been with her friends in an adventure in her dreams.
13
However, as she got up, she saw the tiny drawer. – Is it in her furniture? It was there! She couldn’t contain herself and immediately tried to open it. Inside, there was a piece of paper on which was written…
14
‘Your dream will come true!’
15
If you had a tiny magic drawer with a dream to come true, what dream would that be?
