A sea turtle’s life begins when a mother sea turtle finds a safe spot on the beach to lay her eggs. A mother lies nearly 110 eggs!
After six weeks to two months, the baby turtles hatch. After they hatch, they begin their journey to the ocean water.
After a baby turtle reaches the ocean, it swims for a long period of time to be far away from the shore. They will then spend around ten years growing and developing.
After about ten to fifteen years, the turtles will be adults. These adult turtles will have baby turtles of their own on beaches all around the world. No one is certain of how long sea turtles live, but scientists believe they live to be around 100 years old!
Turtles are amazing animals, but they need our help. Nearly all species of sea turtles are considered to be an endangered species. Everyone can do something to help! For more information on sea turtle conservation, visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy online at http://www.conserveturtles.org/stctmp.php
