The Sock Matcher & Ping Pong

Fred is a little seven year old boy who lives in a small town called Sockville right outside of the city of pants.

Sockville is a very special little town where all the people are world class sock matchers, there is no one in the clothes country that match socks better than them. As Fred is from Sockville he is obviously expected to be a sock matcher and that is all they teach him at school. One day though as Fred was walking home from school he saw two people playing ping pong, he was instantly hypnotized. Everyday after school Fred would go through there and watch these two play ping pong for hours, he was obsessed. Ping pong became Fred’s dream, he forgot about being a sock matcher made himself a paddle, found a small ball and he would practice every day after school in his garage.

Fred obviously didn’t tell his parents because he was afraid that they would be disappointed and mad at him. On one of the days Fred was practicing and his dad came home early from work and caught him playing instead of doing his homework,which was in matching different types of white socks which is considered the hardest type of matching. His dad though did something very surprising, he said nothing and just watched his son from the side. He saw something in him he never saw before, motivation, love, determination, things he saw in himself while learning to match socks as a young boy. At dinner that night Fred’s dad decided to talk to him about what he saw. Fred immediately closed up and defended himself, but his dad said something that surprised Fred. He supported him, he and his mom both told him that if he loves ping pong he should pursue his dream. Fred was ecstatic, he laid in his bed that night and fell asleep with a huge smile on his face.

Ten years later Fred won his first gold medal at the 57th olympics in pong town in the United Kingdom of net sports. His parents were in the crowd with tears in their eyes while listening to their countries anthem for the first time at the olympics for a sport that had nothing to do with clothes.
