We don’t always get things right. Sometimes we don’t want to post a picture because we’re having a bad hair day. Or even a bad head day.

Sometimes we try to say something perfect and end up putting our foot in our mouths.

Sometimes we’re disappointed that we can’t remember everything.

Sometimes we just feel that everyone is perfect. Except us.

But is there anything wrong with being not perfect? Life is full of false starts and blemishes. Didn’t Leonard Cohen once tell us to ‘forget our perfect offering’? Didn’t he say that we need the cracks to help the light get in?

Last night I played my sax after many months of not touching it. It was far from perfect. My embouchure sucked. I was using the wrong reed. The wrong mouthpiece.

My son Adar shot a few seconds of my playing. I was half-dressed. Far from perfect. But listening to the video, I realized that I was in a zone. The zone of the imperfect. The zone of the not being perfect. The zone of the being not perfect. The zone of the being.

So yes, Adar, I’m glad you shot those few seconds. They are wonderfully imperfect. Just like me. And everybody else.
