So I go to this interview, which turned out to be a group interview. My first mistake was laughing when I saw the pay, that really should have been my cue to leave, but I decided to stay and see whats next. SO all the applicants were asked why they came to the interview, they all had these great answers “I want something more challenging” “I feel like I can handle more responsibility” “I would be great for this job” and I said “because AllJobs (a recruitment company) sent me here” that was my second mistake.

Well, I still don’t know why I stayed, I wasn’t interested in the position and I was definitely not right for the part. But I stayed… well we then moved on to the group activity, oy! In a nutshell we were all given a list of situations and had to list them from the worst to the best. After each listed them, we had a group discussion and had to explain why we listed which case and in what order, we then had to re-list them together as a group.

Let’s just say that I didn’t exactly agree with the way the others listed and prioritized the issues.

So, when we had the group discussion on how as a group it should be listed or prioritized,  I convinced them to change it. Unfortunately, when one of the applicants was asked why they changed the way they numbered and prioritized the list, she stuttered a bit and eventually simply said that I had convinced her… Needless to say, they were not too pleased with either of us.

They eventually called each applicant in for a personal interview and when they asked me in they explained how I have skills but no will. Meaning, I showed that I didn’t really want to be here, I wasn’t a serious candidate and of course, was not accepted to the job.

I left feeling like I had wasted both their time and mine, that I was rude and disrespectful, which is a feeling no one deserves.

Moral of the story, when going to an interview, go prepared and even if you realize it’s not for, always be nice and cordial, you never know when you may meet these people in the future.
