The Early Years

I remember the feeling seven years ago when I walked through the doors of C.I.S in September of 2009. It was a bit of an unsure moment; I don’t think I’m going to feel suspense like it for long, long time. Anyway, when I joined, my teachers made me along with all my peers, feel so welcome and basically helped me ease into the daily routines. When I joined Years 1 and 2, it was no different; almost everyone in the class was so nice. I thrived!

My Peeps

Since I joined C.I.S in 2009, I have gotten along with many people and befriended several people. Even though I have met several people and I have become friends with a numerous amount of them, I have not had long – lasting friendships with every single one of them. I have become friends with lots of people for many different reasons; as such, I have decided to group the true, true friends, as my peeps. In total, I have 21 peeps; some are girls, while the others, are boys.

People like Ayomide, Fahrid, Gbemiga, Tobi, Siji, Salim, Sosa, Oyinlola, Omala, Goziem, Aditya, Terhide ( left after Year 5) and Dotun (left after Year 5), have been in C.I.S for at least a year and a half; we have always been great friends and to add to that, all these people were on the C.I.S football team at the same period as me. People like Eduvie, Dami, Uche, Ezara, Louisa, Mofe, Ibrahim who left midway through Year 2, Maha who left after Year 2, and Keitu who left midway through Year 4, weren’t so into football but we bonded over other things. They all respected me and I respected all of them; I enjoyed my conversations with them and they were great people.

THEY WERE ALL SO NICE TO ME! BEING FRIENDS WITH THEM, WAS SO GREAT!

Interesting Teachers

I have had some interesting teachers over the years that have really helped me grow socially, morally, spiritually, academically, culturally and even physically. 3 of my most fascinating teachers are:

Mrs. Akinyemi Yr 2 and Yr 5 Numeracy

Under the facilitation of Mrs Akinyemi, I grew as a student and as a pupil but most importantly as a person. She taught me how to handle my emotions better and she helped a whole lot with my academic. It was plain sailing for most of the year! She helped me learn the important aspects of math in Yr 2 and then helped me deepen my understanding when I got to her numeracy class in Yr 5.

Mrs. Anudu Yr 4 and Yr 6 Literacy

Where do I start? Mrs Anudu is one of the best teachers I have learnt under in my entire life. She helped me embed my SMSC (social, moral, spiritual and cultural) skills into my daily routine. She taught me that it is my responsibility to take ownership for my actions but more vitally, to take ownership of myself. She helped me self regulate which to me means to know what to do, where to do it, how to do it and when to do it. She has repeatedly told me ‘there is a time and place for everything’. She calls me among other children her ‘sunshine’ and I believe that I have proved her right due to the fact that I have absolutely shined under her. I am really going to miss her when I leave C.I.S

Mrs. Dosunmu Yr 6

Mrs Dosunmu is dynamic! Mrs Dosunmu has really helped grow. Although she is one of the best people to teach you academically and has helped me improve in mathematics, topic, science, my writing structure and many more things, I am mainly going to remember Mrs Dosunmu because of the way she facilitated my improvement and enhancement morally and mutually. She has also repeatedly told me that ‘everything is a choice and you always have to make the right choices’. I have learnt a lot from her and now I know that the correct choice is the choice that improves you. The four tribe class agreement, introduced by Mrs Dosunmu, is an important pillar of the class and has helped me relate with people better.

Apart from all of this, I have also become comfortable with some softer more sensitive things; for example:

Swimming

Before I joined I was great at swimming but then I decided to take a break from it as I was starting to feel quite overworked. When we started to do swimming in school, I was in some discomfort but now, I have overcome it and I am doing quite well.

Drumming

Before I joined CIS, I was not really that concerned about music and I did not really like it but now that I have discovered and uncovered the inner beauty of music, I have now found my inner love for music and I am enjoying music as a whole.

Public Speaking

I was just a shy young boy when I joined C.I.S and I didn’t know how to speak in front of people. Now that I have done some terms in orators club, when I am told to speak in front of a crowd, I don’t even break a sweat!

MY GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT

I have had a prosperous time since I joined C.I.S and in that time, I have achieved a great many things. However, one thing has outshone and has stood out from the rest!

Although my dream had always been to become the Head Boy, becoming the Deputy Head Boy took just as much of an effort. I have savoured every minute in the leadership team and I will savour every minute of it forever.

IT IS MY GREATEST EVER ACHIEVEMENT!!!!!!!!!

In this piece of work, I was instructed to create my own dog by cross – breeding to current breeds of dog to come up with something new. In this task, I got a Level: 5A; I believe that I got this level due to the fact that I was able to: write in paragraphs with a chronological flow, use varied punctuation marks, use adventurous vocabulary, add a rhetorical question, incorporate my artistic skills, draw and colour a realistic looking dog, and press harder in certain areas for effect. In the long run, I believe that I got what I deserved and I am happy with my level.

In this specific task, my job, was to explain fossilisation in relation to paleontology. I got a level 4A; I believe that I got the level I got because I was able to: write a reflection in paragraphs with a chronological flow, incorporate all the writing needs and conventions into my work, add a rhetorical question, and incorporate a conclusion with personal opinion. In the final analysis, I am happy with the level that I got and I think that I am deserving of the level that I got.

In this work, I was recording my results and findings and recounting my process for an experiment that I conducted; in this experiment, I was investigating my pulse rate by doing numerous activities. Awesome! Don’t you think? Anyway, in this experiment, I got a level 4B with very strong elements of a level 4A. I personally think, that I got what I got due to the fact that I followed the scientific method, incorporated all the literary conventions, and even added a detailed conclusion with my personal opinion. Although I would have expected a higher level, I was very proud of the work I produced.

Above, is my overall Algebra level. During the course of the time that I was working on Algebra, it started out as a bumpy road due to the fact that I was making the same consistent mistake. Consequently, I began to practise and then it all changed! I upped my game and started a great run of consistent high scores. At the end of it all, I finished algebra happy with my level 5B. I’ve learnt that it’s important to always write my answers in full.

This, was my overall level for revision tests. While doing revision tests that consisted of: money problems, symmetry, shapes and many more concepts of numeracy, it was a totally different story! It was amazing from the get go; I picked up the topic quickly partly because it was a compilation of all the topics I had done before. Although I made some errors, I still answered my questions correctly getting 97% the first time, and 93% the second time; my average score was 95%. I eventually got a level 5A.

In this instance, I made a storyboard of the events that led to ‘The Union of the Crowns’; I got a level 4A. I think that I got the level that I deserved; I also believe that I got the level that I got due to the fact that I was able to: draw realistic pictures of the key figure – King James I, explain using all the required literary conventions, and also draw accurate pictures of insignias like the national coat of arms, and the ‘Union Jack’. Finally, I want to say, that I am fulfilled with the level that I got.

In this instance, I was instructed to write a balanced argument on whether Mary I was really Bloody Mary or not. I eventually got a Level: 4A; I think I got the level I deserve and I am happy with my level. I believe that I got the level that I got due to the fact that I was able to: write in paragraphs with a chronological flow, use all the required writing conventions, and incorporate a conclusion with my personal opinions.

These four pieces of artwork were all completed on different days but all of them are special to me. The first work, is an abstract self – portrait inspired by folk artist – Heather Galler; the second work, is a portrait of King Henry VIII of England; the third work, is a zentangle artwork that is a bit of a collage; and finally, the last work, is just doodling.

In this piece of work, I was instructed to write ‘a day in the life of either a serf, baron, knight or a lord. I wrote about a day in the life of a lord. Eventually, I ended up getting a level: 5C. I believe that I got the level that I got due to the fact that I was able to: write in paragraphs with a chronological flow, use all the required writing conventions, and incorporate a conclusion with my personal opinions.

In this instance, I was instructed to write what Children’s Day means to me; I decided to write a poem and a diary entry. I was able to make my poem verses rhyme and they had an inner meaning. My diary entry on the other hand, explained how diversity links to Children’s Day; I think that they were both quite touching.

In this instance, I was instructed to write a recount of the literary morning at L.P.S, I showed this recount to many to teachers and they all loved it. When I eventually showed it to Mrs. Isa, she absolutely loved it and she gave me 10 house points and a level: 5. I believe that I got the level that I got owing to the fact that I was able to: write 6 paragraphs with a chronological flow, use appropriate writing conventions, use figures of speech and incorporate a conclusion with a personal opinion. In my opinion, I believe that I deserved what I got and I am happy with my level.

MOVING ON

Now that my time in C.I.S is coming to an end, I know where I am going after this. I am going to ensure that I reminisce every second of the last leg of Year 6. I am going to make the most of what I have left. I am going go out with a mighty bang! The home straight of this journey, is going to be the best leg yet. I am going to put my best leg forward! All I can do, is hope and pray that boarding school is as prosperous as primary school. I know for sure that I am not going to let go of what I have in CIS, so quickly!!

MY TIME IN C.I.S HAS BEEN A BLAST!!!!!
