The Pot of Gold

Freddy and Furdy were sitting and not doing very much when a rainbow appeared.

“Hey Freddy,” said Furdy, “I once heard someone say that there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”

“It’s the answer to our prayers!” said Freddy.

“What are we waiting for?”

Over the hills, across the meadows, beyond the river and through the valley.

Until they saw it from afar  –  the rainbow’s end.

Freddy and Furdy scurried across the field like two very hungry mice. They had arrived. There was a cabin. And a sign.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

“Good morning,” he smiled. “My name is Gold. And this is my pot. The Pot of Gold. You’ve come a long way. Congratulations. The pot is yours.”

Freddy and Furry couldn’t wait. Back over the field, through the valley, across the river, past the meadows and over the hills.

It was a long journey home.

Their dream had come true.

A golden pot to cook their porridge in!

Freddy and Furdy added milk, raisins, walnuts and golden syrup. They cooked the porridge carefully, and were just about to eat when they realized that…

…They had run out of cinnamon. Suddenly, a rainbow appeared.

“Do you suppose that Mr. Gold has cinnamon, too?”

And off they went.
