Application Activity

Community Artwork

Allow children to work in pairs or small groups to complete this activity.

Set up:

  • Each group receives 1 drawing utensil (marker, crayon, pencil, etc.)
  • Each group receives 1 sheet of paper
  • Identify a 30 sec class timer (Use a smart board, phone, sand timer, etc.)

How to play:

  • When each group decides who will be the first to draw, the leader starts the timer.
  • The first artist will draw for 30 sec.
  • After the timer finishes, the artist will pass the drawing utensil and the same piece of paper to the next artist.
  • Repeat this turn-taking process with artists adding to the same sheet of paper.
  • Allow for a minimum of 3 rounds.

Concluding the Activity:

  • What are some experiences you had while doing this activity?
  • What are other things that you can take turns with?
  • Why is it important to take turns?
