What is hydroxychloroquine?
hydroxychloroquine tablets 200mg is an antimalarial medication that is used to treat or prevent malaria. It is also occasionally used to treat a variety of other health conditions, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. It works by interfering with the growth of certain types of parasites that cause malaria.
Hydroxychloroquine has been in use since the 1940s, and it is still prescribed today as an effective treatment for malaria. However, it is now being studied as a potential treatment for COVID-19. While there is no conclusive evidence yet on its efficacy in treating the virus, many studies are currently underway to determine if it can be beneficial.
It is important to note that hydroxychloroquine should only be taken under the direction of a healthcare provider. This is because it can cause serious side effects, and it is not always suitable for all individuals.
The good: hydroxychloroquine can be effective in treating lupus
HCQS 200 (HCQ), commonly known as Plaquenil, is a drug that has been used to treat rheumatic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) since the 1950s. It is an anti-malarial drug that works by inhibiting the growth of parasites in the body.
HCQ has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of SLE, including joint pain, fatigue, and rash. Studies have shown that HCQ can reduce the number of flares, or episodes of increased disease activity, in those with SLE. It can also reduce the amount of damage to organs that can occur due to SLE. In addition, HCQ may also be effective in improving quality of life for those with SLE.
While HCQ can be an effective treatment for SLE, it does come with risks. It is important to speak with your doctor about any potential risks associated with taking HCQ, as well as any other medications you are taking. With proper monitoring and use, HCQ can be a safe and effective treatment option for those with SLE.
The bad: hydroxychloroquine can cause serious side effects
Hydroxychloroquine is known to have serious side effects, some of which can be life-threatening. People with certain conditions may be at a higher risk for these side effects. These conditions include heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and other underlying health conditions.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, rash, itching, and changes in hair color. Serious side effects include muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, abnormal blood counts, kidney failure, liver damage, and hearing loss. Other rare but more serious side effects can include vision changes, confusion, seizures, and severe muscle weakness. In extreme cases, hydroxychloroquine can lead to coma or death.
It’s important to talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of hydroxychloroquine before starting any treatment. If you experience any serious side effects while taking hydroxychloroquine, you should seek medical help immediately.
The ugly: hydroxychloroquine may not be effective in treating COVID-19
Hydroxychloroquine has been touted as a potential cure for the novel coronavirus, but the science doesn’t back it up. While some early studies suggested that hydroxychloroquine might be beneficial in treating COVID-19, subsequent studies have found that it is not effective in preventing or treating the disease.
In a randomized controlled trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers tested the effectiveness of buy ivermectin online versus standard care in over 400 hospitalized patients with COVID-19. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups, indicating that hydroxychloroquine was not effective in treating the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also conducted an extensive review of existing studies on the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 and found that there is no strong evidence that it can reduce mortality in people infected with the virus.
Given this evidence, it is clear that hydroxychloroquine 400 mg is not effective in treating COVID-19 and should not be used to treat the disease. It is important to note, however, that hydroxychloroquine may still be used to treat other conditions such as lupus.
