on July 26th, 2001, When Reut was 6 years old, she welcomed to her life her new little sister – Tamar (an addition to her brother Yoav who was 3 years old).
Tamar was born with a red big birth mark on her cheek and her parents could immidiately see that something is not 100% about her health.
Few months went by, and the family realizes that Tamar was born with a rare disease, called “Tuberous sclerosis” which is a rare multisystem genetic disease that causes non-cancerous tumours to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, liver, eyes, lungs and skin.
As part of the disease’s sympotms, when she’s only few months old, Tamar started to have epilepsy attacks. These has affected among other things, also her cognetial development.
Today, 21 years later, Tamar is a strong, funny, happy young lady, still leaving among her parents in the nothern district of Israel, studying in a special program in Kinneret College, and looking forward to her next challenge to do Sherut Leumi. Tamar has a very creative mind, high emotional intelligence, and a big sense of humour.
Although being the youngest, every day Tamar teaches her family about what is real will power, and how to enjoy life.
Two weeks ago, Tamar (21), Reut(27) and their parents, went on a trip to Jordan all together. it was an organized tour with an Israely tour guide- traveling in the “Wadi Rum” desert. At one of the stops, the Guide – Yoni, took all the group together, 12 people, on a climbing walk on one of the big boulders.
Tamar’s parents and her big sister Reut were helping Tamar to reach the first top and rest for few minutes.
Yoni, the guide, has then gathered all the group together and annouced loudly : “We will continue to climb now toward our second top all together, but Tamar – you CAN NOT continue with us now! this climb is not for you. wait for us here till we come back! “.
At that moment, Reut turned red and angry, flooded with emotions, thinking “how can Yoni be so insensitive?”. Tears were covering all her face and Tamar, her sister, was helping her to calm down – asking if she’s afraid of the next climb, without really understanding why did she get so upset..
Yoni, the guide, received a lesson for life..
The two sisters stayed together on the top of the cliff, while the rest of the group continues to climb, and watched the most beautiful sunset.
