Mamma Mia!
Mamma Mia is one of many amazing, popular songs that was given to as by the great Swedish band ABBA.
That was the first group from a non-English-speaking country to achieve consistent success in the charts of English-speaking countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and many more.
The song was written by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson.
It is the opening track on the group’s third album. The song was released in September 1975 as its sixth single.
Interesting fact is “Mamma Mia” was never intended for release as a single. Around this time, many artists were recording ABBA songs and ABBA offered “Mamma Mia” to British pop group Brotherhood of Man, who turned it down.
Luckily the song was recorded by ABBA
with the lead vocals shared by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
The song had a huge success world-wide and “Mamma Mia” reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in January 1976.
The lyrics
personally I think that one of the main reasons the song is so popular till this day is the incredible beat , rhythm and ofcourse the lyrics.
anybody can relate to the songs themes of love, conflict, heartbreak, betrayal, regret, and the famous cry for help “Mamma Mia!!”
the lyrics of the song describe an emotional rollercoaster that anyone has experienced, in some form, during their lives which keeps this song relevant through out the decades.
Mamma Mia lyrics
So I made up my mind, it must come to an end
Look at me now, will I ever learn
I don’t know how, but I suddenly lose control
There’s a fire within my soul
(One more look) and I forget everything, whoa
My, my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again
My, my, just how much I’ve missed you?
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, now I really know
My, my, I could never let you go
I can’t count all the times that I’ve told you we’re through
And when you go, when you slam the door
I think you know that you won’t be away too long
(One more look) and I forget everything, whoa
My, my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again
My, my, just how much I’ve missed you?
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, even if I say
Bye-bye, leave me now or never
Mamma mia, it’s a game we play
My, my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again
My, my, just how much I’ve missed you?
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, now I really know
My, my, I could never let you go
