After discussing with friends about ideas for this E-book, we decided to take a break and listen to music.
Little did i know that this break will end up helping me choose my topic.
While we were on a break inspiration stroke.
I chose to write my E-book about the song “Her majesty”.
Written by one of the best bands of all times, “Her majesty” is by far one of my favorite “beatles” songs.
Realised on 1969, the song was the last track on the famous “Abbey road” album and is known as “the beatles” shortest song – it is only 23 seconds long.
My personal interest in the song
I myself own a copy of the “Abbey road” album, and for months it confused me why the beginning of the song sounds like the end of another track, and why is the track only played for 23 seconds. Initially i even thought something was wrong with my CD, but after a little research i discovered the truth.
The story behind the song
Written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney, the song was meant to be an actual tribute to the Queen of England and to be placed in the middle of the album.
After recording, McCartney decided that the sequence did not work and instructed the studios engineer John Kurlander to destroy the tape and edit the song out of the album.
As luck would have it, John, who was taught never to throw anything away, accidentally left the last note of the song in and decided to keep it there just in case, leaving edit notes saying the track was unwanted.
Malcolm Davies who cut a playback lacquer of the whole sequence the next day thought the same as john and decided to stuck the track onto the end of the edit tape.
And so, the jarring electric guitar chord that begins ‘Her Majesty’, the same one that confused me at first, is actually the chord from the end of the original ‘Mean Mr. Mustard.'”
Hidden record
“Her Majesty”appears in the final cut of the album 14 seconds after the previous song “The End,” but was not listed on the original sleeve. As such, it is considered one of the first examples of a hidden track in rock music.
Lyrics
Her majesty’s a pretty nice girl
But she doesn’t have a lot to say
Her majesty’s a pretty nice girl
But she changes from day to day
I wanna tell her that i love her a lot
But i gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her majesty’s a pretty nice girl
Someday I’m going to make her mine, oh, yeah
Someday I’m going to make her mine.
The unedited virsion:
The popularity of this song
I think the song is unpopular, as it does not meet any of the categories we learned in the course.
Eventhogh the story behind the song is funny, most of the people didnt hear about it so it is still one of the unfamous songs of the Beatels.
Because of its short length, most people think it was added by mistake so do not bother to hear it to the end and this song is unfamiliar, also the song was not mentioned in the songs lists on the album.
I myself did not know this song until I started actively researching the Beatles songs.
