Oh well I’m the type of guy who will never settle down
Where pretty girls are well, you know that I’m around
I kiss ’em and I love ’em ’cause to me they’re all the same
I hug ’em and I squeeze ’em they don’t even know my name
They call me the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around
Oh well there’s Flo on my left and there’s Mary on my right
And Janie is the girl with that I’ll be with tonight
And when she asks me which one I love the best
I tear open my shirt I got Rosie on my chest
‘Cause I’m the wanderer yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around
Oh well I roam from town to town
I go through life without a care
‘Til I’m as happy as a clown
With my two fists of iron and I’m going nowhere
I’m the type of guy that likes to roam around
I’m never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin’ for some girl, yeah
I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world
Yeah I’m the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around, let’s go
Oh yeah I’m the type of guy that likes to roam around
I’m never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin’ for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world
‘Cause I’m a wanderer, yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around, around, around
‘Cause I’m a wanderer, yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around, aroundm around

This song matches several positions from list of our course “What makes the song to be popular”.

The first one is “To perorm in the film”. Dion has sang this song in the film “Twist around the clock” (1961) and in the video bellow we can see the fragment from the moovie where he perfoms his weel known hit.

Despite the low ratings of the film, no one actually remember it now, the song continues his life and appears in even modern advertisments and films.

It shows us, that even if film is not popular anymore, the song from the film still can move on.

Another point – “Covers”.

“The Wanderer” has been covered by many other popular singers and bands, including Bad Company, Dee Snider, Gary Glitter, The Beach Boys, Leif Garrett (US number 49 in 1978), Bruce Springsteen, Delbert McClinton, Dave Edmunds, Status Quo covered the song twice, once as a complete version, and once again as part of their Anniversary Waltz, Pt. 1.

And as you can see, some of those covers were very popular too. Eddie Rabbits version even reched higher places that Dion’s.

Not every modern blues song appear in advertisments of any kind, but Dion’s “Wanderer” does. In 2015 his song appeared in trailer of the post apocalypse game named “Fallout 4”. The game has futuristic setting of the 60’s and this song perfectly matches it.

By the way – there are another points from our list “advertising and marketing” and “Go through the time”.

If we will check this song with every point from our list, we will se that it siuts almost to everyone.

It has story “of the guy who goes around”.

It has dancibility – almost as every other popular blues song.

It has its own “Hook”.

Its has empathy with the words and to the rythm.

And so on and so on….

Because of theese and other resons, which we maybe even didnt mention in the class, views and likes counter on the YouTube of the all covers and videos of this song goes up and up.

And those are the reasons why I choose to write me e-bbok about this song.
