Origin of didgeridoo
Didgeridoo dates back hundreds of years and originated in what is now the northern part of Australia. It was the first musical instrument of the primitive tribes near the coast, who had access to wild bamboo in the land of Arnhem. The hollow stems of the mature plants were cut and cleaned. Much later, all-wood tools of this type were created.
Material it is made of
The didgeridoo is a wind instrument in the form of a straight wooden trumpet. The instrument is made of a hallow three branch, traditionally eucalyptus wood or iron wood, and it is about 1,5m (5 feet) long.
How is it played
A didgeridoo can be played simply by producing a vibrating sound of the lips to produce the basic drone. More advanced play involves the technique known as circular breathing. The circular breathing technique requires breathing in through the nose whilst simultaneously using the muscles of the cheeks to compress the cheeks and expel stored air out of the mouth. By use of this technique, a skilled player can replenish the air in their lungs, and with practice can sustain a note for as long as desired.
