This is the 1970s story about the pelican and the fox. The pelican is Sharon and her best friend is Baldry. They live with a lady called Sandra. Sharon has 3 daughters and 2 sons. Baldry is the 7 year old fox.

2

Sharon doesn’t eat sticks, but she eats fish skin. “Why are you eating fish?” asked Baldry. “Because I’m hungry.” said Sharon. Baldry needs something to eat too. But he looked for fox food. “I found some!” said Baldry. He ate the fox food near Sandra’s house.

3

Baldry went home. “Would you like any fox food?” he asked. “No, because I am not a fox!” said Sharon. Her son is asleep. Her daughter is locked up in Sandra’s bedroom. Sharon was cross again. “Get her out!!!” shouted Sharon crossly. “Okay, I can get her out” said Sandra.

4

Sharon’s sad daughter got out of Sandra’s bedroom. “Thank you.” she said. “That’s alright, but it was a problem.” said Sandra. Baldry was a bit disappointed. “In real life, I was on TV in England when I was nearly 7.” he said. He was asleep.

5

Sharon’s husband, Paula, came into Sandra’s house. “Hello.” he said. “Hi, nice to see you. My daughter Zoe was locked up into Sandra’s bedroom because I have to get her out.” said Sharon. “But your daughter’s out now.” said Paula. Sharon came upstairs to see Baldry. “Are you okay?” she asked. “I am, but I want some more sleep.” he said.

6

Sharon asked Sandra for a ice lolly. “Pelicans don’t eat ice lollies, but they eat fish and meat.” she said. “This is my very first ice lolly, Sandra! Thank you!” said Sharon. Paula noticed her about eating an ice lolly. “Pelicans don’t eat stuff like that!” he said crossly.

7

Baldry woke up and went downstairs. “Sharon’s eating an ice lolly.” he said sadly. “I know, but Sharon is not allowed to eat stuff like that.” said Paula. “Okay.” said Baldry. He went off and sat on one of Sandra’s armchairs. He started to cry.

8

Sandra came up to him. “What’s wrong?” she asked. “Sharon is not allowed to eat ice lollies and cones, so she eats a lot of meat and fish.” he said sadly. Sharon has finished her ice lolly and she put the stick into the bin.

9

She went to a room with one of Sandra’s armchairs in and she came up to Baldry. “Don’t cry, baby. Don’t cry.” she said. “I know, but you’re not allowed to eat stuff like ice lollies and cones.” he said.

10

Sharon went off and went out through the fields. “I might go to a shop where there are lots of meat and fish there!” she shouted. Paula, her husband, went to look out the window and Sharon has been gone out. “That’s a shame!” he said.

11

At last, Sharon reached to a shop where there are lots of meat and fish. “I’m here!” she said. “What is that pelican doing in that shop? We need help!” said the man who works at the shop. “I think she is buying some meat and fish for herself.” said a little boy with his mother.

12

“I love chicken and turkey together!” said Sharon with an excitement. “Wow, I’m going to buy them!”

Sharon went to pay for the chicken and the turkey but the man payed them for her. “Goodbye!” she said and the man was very cross.

13

“I think Sharon is going to be on the news!” cried Baldry. He went upstairs to one of Sandra’s bedrooms. Paula was cross as well, and one of Sharon’s sons and daughters were cross too.

14

“Mummy payed for some chicken and turkey!” shouted Zoe. “And, Mummy is going to be on the news on the television!” said Gabriel, Sharon’s son crossly. “Oh, no! What am I going to do?” asked Sharon. She was shocked.

15

Sandra cooked the chicken and the turkey for Sharon. Baldry began to cry again and Zoe flyed upstairs to the bedroom where Baldry was. She began to cry too. “I’m coming!!” shouted Paula, and he went upstairs.

16

“Shall we watch the news on the television right now?” asked Baldry. “I think so.” said Paula. All of Zoe, Baldry and Paula went back downstairs and watched the news reporting on the television. Sharon was on the news and the photograph was tooken.

17

That night, Sharon, Baldry and Paula sleep in the bedroom where Baldry was, and all of Sharon’s sons and daughters sleep downstairs, and Sandra sleeps in her bedroom herself. “Goodnight, all!” she whispered. “Goodnight, Sandra!” said all of Zoe, Gabriel, Joanne, Hugh and Lydia, the sons and daughters, Sharon, Baldry and Paula.

18

Sharon, Baldry and Paula went back upstairs and they are all asleep. Sandra went back upstairs too, but she is now asleep in her bed as well. Baldry heard a scary noise coming from outside the house. It went hooting and hooting, until Baldry got scared.

19

“It’s an owl!” he cried. “It’s okay, but it’s only hooting because it is now night time.” said Sharon. They both went back to sleep, and all of them, had sweet dreams, ready for tomorrow morning.

20

Now, it’s the morning and Baldry is going to school. “Goodbye, Baldry! See you later!” said Sharon and her children, Sandra and Paula. “He can stand up and be a fox.” said one of Sharon’s children. “I think so.” said Sharon. Sandra is going to cook breakfast for her and the children, but expect Paula.

21

(The story ends at page 35 on the book).

“I love breakfast!” said Sharon. “Me, too!” said all of Sharon’s children. Paula asked for sausages and beans with bread, her children asked for cereal and Sharon asked for mash potato and baked beans for breakfast. “You can’t have mash potato and beans for breakfast!” said one of Sharon’s children. “It’s my favourite food!” said Sharon.

22

Sharon went upstairs and she found a little rubber duck in the bedroom where she is, and where Baldry and Paula are. “I should take it back to the bathroom where we have a bath.” she said. And, she had a little squeeze on the little rubber duck. “It’s so squeaky!” she said with an excitement. “And, my mash potato and baked beans are now ready!”

23

Sharon came back downstairs without the little rubber duck. “What were you doing upstairs?” asked one of Sharon’s children. “I found a little rubber duck in the room where I am and I put it back in the bathroom.” she said. Sharon’s mash potato and baked beans are now ready. She ate it and Paula began to cry.

24

“The cereal is yummy and it is nice!” said all of Sharon’s children. Paula’s sausages and beans are ready and the bread is not hot, so Sandra gave it to him. “Thank you!” he said, and he is now eating his breakfast like his wife, Sharon.

25

(This part is Baldry in school on this page).

Baldry is hungry. “What’s wrong?” said his school teacher. “I’m hungry, and I forgot to have breakfast.” he said sadly. “Well, do I have to get you some?” she asked. “Yes, please.” said Baldry. “Okay, then.” said his school teacher again. “Okay, everyone. I’m going to get Baldry some breakfast, so I’ll be back soon!”

26

(This part is back to Sharon, Paula, her children and Sandra).

Sharon finished her breakfast and she went to watch television. Her children went to watch television too, but Paula is staying in the dining room. “I miss Baldry so much.” she said sadly. “And I don’t like being on the news.” And she began to cry.

27

“What’s the matter?” said Zoe, Sharon’s first daughter. “Don’t cry, baby. Don’t cry.” said Joanne, the second daughter. “Well, I really miss Baldry a lot and I don’t like being on the news.” said Sharon. “But, you’re on the news.” said Zoe again.

28

It is now half past three and Baldry is now home from school. “Did you have a good day at school?” asked Sharon. “Yes, I did. It was awesome!” he said. He went upstairs to the bedroom and he went on the bed. Paula went upstairs and noticed Baldry. “Are you alright?” he asked. “Yes, I am. I’m watching the birds flying in the sky.” said Baldry.

29

“How old are you?” asked Paula. “I’m seven years old.” said Baldry. One of Sharon’s daughters died on the road. “No, Joanne! Please come back!” sobbed Sharon. “What’s wrong?” asked Baldry. “My second daughter Joanne died because she got hit by a car on the road. And, she needs to go to the hospital!” cried Sharon. “No, Joanne! Come back!” sobbed Zoe and Lydia, and they began to cry.

30

“Don’t cry, you two! Your mum let know you.” said Baldry. Gabriel and Hugh came up to the died Joanne. “Come back!” I want to see you again!” he cried. “I want you back, Joanne. You’re the best!” cried Hugh. “Don’t cry, four of you Zoe, Lydia, Gabriel and Hugh!” cried Baldry. “Well, I’m not upset, so I’m just looking.”

31

The police car came up and the policewomen noticed but Sharon’s second daughter, Joanne died on the road. All of Sharon, Baldry, Paula, Zoe, Gabriel, Lydia and Hugh went to rush inside the house. Sandra was cooking dinner for all of them very early because she was in the kitchen. Zoe and Baldry ran upstairs.

32

“When did this happen?” asked the first policewoman. “Today, because she got hit on the road of a man’s car when the fox came home from his school!” said the second policewoman. They got into their policecar and at last, the cooked dinner was ready.

33

“The dinner’s ready!” called Zoe, the first daughter of Sharon. They went to the dining table and they ate a lot of roast chicken, mashed potatoes, peas, broccoli and gravy. “I love roast chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy!” shouted Baldry. “There is no need to shout, but we’re not allowed to do that when they’re eating dinner on the table.” said Paula.

34

“I’m sorry, Paula.” he said. “That’s okay, but there is no need to shout.” said Paula. “Okay.” said Baldry. When they’ve finished their dinner, they went straight to bed. The four of the sons and daughters sleep downstairs as normal. Sandra went to bed and Baldry had a shower. He was smelly.

35

After Baldry had his shower, he went straight to bed. Sandra already said goodnight to all of them, expect him, the children, Sharon and Paula. They are all fast asleep and they lived happily ever after.

The End.
