“The End”, by the Beatles came out on their album “Abbey Road” in 1969.

This song is very special, interesting and I think very meaningful.

Although the song is called “The End”, talks about endings and is the ending for the Beatles (which we will get to), it also has some special “first timers”.

Lyrics:

Oh yeah, alright
Are you going to be in my dreams
Tonight?

[Drum and Guitar Solos]

Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love you, love you
Love

And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make

Some special facts about the song:

1. It’s the last song the four Beatles recorded together! (get it, “The End”…)

(The album Let It Be was released after Abbey Road, but recorded before)

2. All 4 Beatles have a solo:

  1. It’s Ringo’s first drum solo (he didn’t like playing solos)
  2. If you listen closely to the guitar solo, you’ll hear that it changes a bit (3 times to be exact) – each change is a change in the Beatle member playing. The first is Paul, then George, and lastly John.

Some say that this song, its meaning, and the fact that it was the last to be recorded, is The Beatles farewell from their fans.

The song ends with the lyrics :

“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”

We can interpret the lyrics as if the Beatles are telling their fans that the love they collected from everybody, was the same intense love that they invested in the band’s work.

It’s their last message of love.

Musically, this last section goes from a sad and poignant A minor to a safe and happy C major, suggesting that despite troubles and hardship, everything will be alright in the end.

I would like to interpret it from an everyday point of view, which I think is relevant to everybody.

In the end, the way you treat others, is the way others will treat you.

If you love others and give love to others, if you be a loving person and just be nice to the world, THAT’S WHAT YOU’LL GET BACK FROM THE WORLD.

Do good, and you’ll get good.

Make love, and you’ll take love.

It also relates to good and bad karma, that are part of the Indian religions, that the Beatles were influenced by.

I think this song is very optimistic and its message of love is very powerful.

I hope you enjoyed this E-book, and this song, and I really hope the love you take is equal to the love you make…

Cause all you need is love…. (;
