There was a famine in Judea in Israel. The Elimelech family from Bethlehem moved to neighboring Moav, following the famine.
Not so long after the family moved to Moav Elimelech died.
After his death his two sons Mahalon and Hilyon got married to the moavs girls Ruth and Orpa.
Ten years after Mahalon and Hilyon got married they died.
they died with no children and left their wifes alone.
Noami ,Elimelech wife and Mahalon and Hilyon mother. heard that the famine in Judah stopped.
Because she had nothing in Moav except her wives she decided to return to Judah as poor with nothing.
Ruth the widow asked Noami if she can go back to Judah with her.
Naomi told Ruth to stay with her people and family but Ruth insists on going with Naomi to Judah.
Ruth told Naomi that she is her family and she will never leave her alone
Naomi and Ruth return to Judah and settled down in Bethlehem
they were poor ,so Ruth was looking for a field where she can gather crops.
she found Boaz’s field from Elimelich’s family.
Boaz saw her in the field and asked her for her name and began to liked Ruth.
When Naomi heard about that she advise Ruth to talk to Boaz.
Boaz and Ruth meet at night. At first Boaz didnt know how was in the filed with him but then Ruth revealed her self to Boaz And told him that she was Naomi’s family.
She told him that they could get married and continue her family together.
Boaz tells Ruth that he will do anything to marry her.
Ruth and Boaz got married.
They had a child named Oved, he gave birth to Yishai and Yishai gave birth to David , the King of Israel.
2. Which character do you admire and why?
We choose Ruth as an admirable figure because she wanted to come to Israel knowing she was not Jewish and she was willing to convert and accept Judaism, even if it was difficult. She was diligent and helped Naomi without her telling her. At the time she went out to gather crops Naomi did not tell her to do it. She is also nice to people like the time Boaz helped her and she was a good mother to her sons
3. What does accepting the Torah (קבלת תורה) mean to you?
the meaning of receiving the torah for us is:
god chose us to lead us as his people
