Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.
Augmented Reality content can be accessed by scanning or viewing a trigger with a mobile device that creates a subsequent action. This action can be a video, another image, 3D animations, a QR code, or whatever you would like and wish it to be. The possibilities are endless.
Augmented Reality can be a great resource in education. Student engagement can be accessed within the classroom through this innovative form of technology. AR technology provides virtual examples as well as added gaming elements to support textbook materials and curriculum. A classroom can now become more innovative and interactive allowing for great student achievement and success. (ISTE., S.4.d)
Augmented Reality can provide an enriching and meaningful learning experiences. These learning experiences can be as complex or as easy as you wish them to be. The options of creating your own augmented reality are yours to create. However, you can also access numerous already-made applications that are connected to various content. Students also have the ability to create their own for a more hands-on approach. (ISTE., S.6.a.)
Augmented Reality can help make a classroom more interactive and allow for learners to focus more on the practice and not just the theory. The increased engagement in the classroom will allow for optimal improvement in learning experiences.
The use of Augmented Reality is not limited to a particular subject, age group, or education grade level. AR can be used for education and corporate training. The possibilities are endless.
