Like most people, I had no idea what mushrooms would look like before I tried them. In the introduction to my book, Your Psilocybin Mushroom Companion, I detail my first trip to mushrooms at the age of 17 and how disastrously I was unprepared for the “awesomeness of the experience” It’s what prompted me to write a nearly 200-page book about how to safely consume psilocybin mushrooms while minimizing side effects. potential for harm increases mindfulness and maximizes benefits. Because taking magic mushrooms is serious business, if you intentionally prepare yourself and your surroundings, take a safe dose, and have the right support, it can be a momentous experience that can open your mind to a new way of being.

What are mushrooms?

“Shrooms” is the lingo for psilocybin mushrooms, consumed for a distinct and often profound psychedelic experience. The most popular magic mushroom is Psilocybe cubensis, but there are more than 180 different species that contain psilocybin. Although present, psilocybin may be a Schedule I substance within the US, but activists in cities across the country are working tirelessly to decriminalize magic mushrooms and succeed.

Psilocybin mushrooms have been used ceremonially for probably thousands of years, and sacred mushroom ceremonies still exist in certain indigenous communities. The Mazatec people of the Sierra Mazateca of Oaxaca, Mexico, are considered the most knowledgeable about the ceremonial use of mushrooms. They continue to bring the “little saints” in ceremony for healings, divination, and other revered purposes.

Magic mushrooms have been making a comeback since 2006 when Johns Hopkins University published the first study since the 1968 ban on psilocybin, a rare scientific paper that proved that psilocybin could trigger profound “ mystical experiences ” that had great potential for life. mental health. The mushroom compound is currently being used in clinical trials for end-of-life anxiety, treatment-resistant depression, addiction, eating disorders, and other conditions with unprecedented success, and psilocybin-assisted therapy. it has received “breakthrough therapy” status from the FDA as a treatment for depression.

Mushroom Effects: What is a mushroom trip like?

In moderate to high doses (we’ll get to the exact numbers later in the story), mushrooms take travelers on a psychedelic journey that can be smooth, fun, and even mystical in its depth, but it can also be challenging and comprehensive. of shame or unresolved pain. Studies, such as this study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, at Johns Hopkins University, NYU, Imperial College London, and other prominent institutions, have found a relationship between psilocybin’s mystical qualities and its healing potential. Psilocybin has shown promise in studies for major clinical depression and treatment-resistant depression. It has also been researched and shown promise for nicotine addiction, alcohol dependence, and even anxiety and depression associated with a terminal illness, sometimes called end-of-life distress.

Psilocybin is certainly not an escape from reality, even though it causes such an altered state of mind. But mushrooms often offer dramatically new perspectives on one’s life or life in general that can help people live a more authentic and fulfilling life in the future.Personally, in my most significant buy shrooms canada journeys, I have a feeling that all the little things that cause me so much stress and dread in everyday life are quite insignificant and not the life and death situations that I am making them out to be. in my head. I can see that there is more to life than my insecurities, fears, and stressors; that I have a purpose and I am part of something bigger than any individual. Call it ego death or a way of unity, but the reality is, I come feeling refreshed, motivated, and with more appreciation for the person I’m the hardest on myself.

How long do mushrooms last?

The entire experience lasts between four and eight hours, averaging for most people about a six-hour drive, but it can be done and individual dependent. Mushrooms take an average of 30 to 45 minutes to kick in, but it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours depending on how you consumed them, so don’t get anxious or drink more if you don’t feel them coming. turn it on as fast as you like. I strongly advise you to plan your dose ahead of time, measure your mushrooms with a scale to know exactly how much you’re taking, and then wait. make sure you want more.

Mushroom trip timeline

The arc of experience is generally as such:

  • Let’s go: First two hours
  • Peak: about three to four hours after ingestion
  • Come down slowly: from four to six, usually

It is important to note that the mushroom experience comes and goes in waves. This is especially evident towards the end of your journey. It may seem like your journey is completely over by hour five, especially compared to the intensity of its peak, but then another wave of the psychedelic experience can wash over you. So be kind to yourself towards the end and don’t rush back to normal. Instead, let the fungus tide naturally subside.

Lastly, while you are not likely to have a hangover, and indeed a light, motivating glow after a trip is common, it is highly recommended to stay home and relax all day after a mushroom trip. The reason is that it could be in a delicate place. In my book, I describe it as having one foot in each world, the mushroom world and the real one, so don’t push yourself. Instead, use that day to reflect on your journey, perhaps through a journal, a nature walk, or whatever speaks to you.
