Over the past year, I’ve been working with the incredible Harold Underdown on over two dozen picture book manuscripts. Here are the eight texts that we are happiest with in dummy format. You are welcome to have a private look at them by clicking on the links.
Please do not share or use them in any other manner. You are welcome to email me at [email protected] with any comments. I’m also happy to show you how to make your own private pb dummies!

A Friend for Frog. No one wants to be Frog’s friend. Toad thinks he is too green, Spider ridicules him for eating flies, and Rabbit rejects him for hopping around. But when he meets Bear, these same traits turn into great starting points for their new friendship.
Bat and Bird. Owl cannot understand why everything is upside-down until he discovers that he has ventured into Bat’s upside-down book. The two find a clever way to rectify matters and become friends only to discover that they are both day sleepers and pajama lovers.
Keegle and Koogle, Synagogue Mice. Keegle and Koogle are well-fed mice spoiled by the synagogue’s caterer, Thelma Zissel. When Thelma leaves to travel the world, her replacement, Mr. Spindleman turns out to be a total disaster. Keegle and Koogle, wasting away, hatch a plan. They renew their vows atop the wedding cake at the Kimmel Wedding. The ensuing mouse commotion leads to Mr. Spindleman’s rapid dismissal and Ms. Zissel’s sweet return.
Her Own Voice – Carole King. Her Own Voice – Carole King follows the life of one of the greatest popular musicians of all time, from the outset of her career (at the age of three!) through her growth as a leading composer, to her breakthrough with “Tapestry”, when she finds the confidence to sing in her own voice.
Once in a Blue Moon. Louie, Ava’s saxophone-loving dog, is missing. When Mom tells her that lost dogs come home only “Once in a blue moon”, Ava decides to wait for one until the evening she realizes that the blue moon that will bring Louie home is not the one in the sky, but the one in the song. When Ava drags her Father outside to play “Blue Moon” Louie hears it from afar and races home to his loving family.
Emily Saw a Door. Emily sees an inviting door and asks to come in. “This door is for those who are blue,” says the voice. “You don’t sound blue. Are you blue?” A second door is for those who climb endless stairs, a third for liars, a fourth for hungry jungle creatures and a final door for those who are “tall enough”. Following rejection and disappointment, Emily pulls two crayons from her hair, draws a door of her own and walks right in. With back matter on the history of doors and door knobs.
Hey You, Egg! The white eggs in the incubator all make fun of the lone brown egg. When the brown egg hatches to reveal a yellow chick, they laugh even more. That is, until they begin to hatch themselves.
Bacteria Galore by Sunday at Four. Bacteria Galore by Sunday at Four is a humorous and engaging concept book on bacteria—what they are, how they were discovered, how they grow, and how we interact with them.
