It is everyone’s responsibility to reduce humanity’s collective carbon footprint and conserve our natural resources to combat climate change and make our planet habitable.
But given how busy it is to be a student, how can you find time to protect natural resources?
The answer is simple. As a student, you can help to conserve natural resources by minding what you use and how it is produced.
You don’t need to change your entire lifestyle to bring change.
In this article, we’re going to teach you some simple ways of protecting natural resources as a student.
But before that, let’s understand a few things.

What Are Natural Resources?
Natural resources include resources that exist on the planet without any human assistance.
They include water, trees, oil, soil, animals, etc.
Natural resources can be classified as renewable or nonrenewable.
Renewable resources are those that can be used without getting depleted whereas nonrenewable are those that cannot be replenished.

Why Conserve Natural Resources?
The reality is that humans cannot survive without natural resources.
Unfortunately, not all natural resources can be replenished.
That means we must do everything possible to conserve what nature has given us so we can make the planet a healthy place to live.
According to Johansen Anderson, an environmentalist who also writes natural resources essays on WritingBros, when we conserve our natural resources, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make the environment clean and habitable.
That said, here is how students can protect natural resources:

⦁ Reuse Your Books
How many books are gathering dust on your bookshelf? Did you know that they could be reused by someone else?
Yes, today, there are thousands of websites or physical stores where you can sell your old books so that they can be repurposed or recycled.
When books are recycled, it means fewer trees will be cut and fewer resources will be used to produce books.
This way, you’ll be saving resources.

⦁ Limit The Use of Paper
While the technology has its drawbacks, it has helped a lot when it comes to conserving natural resources.
Today, students can do almost everything from course enrollment to taking lecture notes through their phones or computers.
This helps to reduce the dependence on paper.
Of course, you can make suggestions on any method that could help to conserve resources in your university.

⦁ Recycle
You must have heard or read about the importance of recycling, but we must stress this point.
Oftentimes universities have recycling bins. If yours don’t have a recycling bin, find out why.
Of course, it can be difficult to recycle if you’re living with people who aren’t conscious about the environment.
You’ll need to assume some responsibilities to teach everyone including your colleagues how to recycle.

⦁ Save Electricity
Some sources of electricity are depleting fast due to increased population and dependency on them.
As a student, you need to be mindful of how you use electricity and adjust your consumption to preserve electricity.
Some of the ways to save electricity include using lights only when it’s necessary, unplugging electronics devices you aren’t using, etc.

⦁ Save Water
Water is a nonrenewable resource. And only 0.03% of the available water is fresh.
As a student, you can save water by turning all your taps off, shortening your shower time, etc.
