Knock, knock, knock.
3
“Good morning, Toad,” said Frog. “Will you be my friend? I picked you a buttercup.”
4
5
“Be your friend?” laughed Toad. “Frogs are green. Who would a friend that’s green?”
6
“You are green too,” said Frog, gently. “We could be green together.”
7
Toad just yawned and slipped into the forest.
8
So Frog went to see Spider.
9
“Will you be my friend?” Frog asked Spider. “I picked this peony for you.”
10
11
“Be your friend? That’s preposterous. Frogs catch flies.
12
Who would want a fly-eating friend like you?”
13
“You eat flies too,” said Frog, softly. “We could eat them together.”
14
Spider just closed the door and returned to his lunch.
15
So Frog went to see Rabbit.
Knock, knock, knock.
16
“Hi there, Rabbit. Will you be my friend? I picked you a daisy.”
17
“You must be kidding,” said Rabbit. “Who would want a friend like you?
18
You hop around all day long.”
19
“We could hop around together,” whispered Frog, but it was too late.
20
Rabbit’s door was already closed.
21
Frog trudged home.
22
Knock, knock, knock.
23
“Hi, Frog,” said Bear. “Will you be my friend? I brought you some delicious honey.”
24
25
“Be your friend?” asked Frog, looking way up. “But I’m so green. And you’re so brown.”
26
“Fine with me,” said Bear. “I like green. Do you like brown?”
27
“Sure,” said Frog. “But I catch flies. How could we ever be friends?”
28
“Simple!” said Bear. “You can catch mine.”
29
“There is one more thing, though,” whispered Frog. “You don’t hop around, do you?”
30
“Hop around? No but I would love to learn how,” said Bear. “And I can teach you how to roar, if you like.”
31
“Great,” said Frog. “And by the way, thanks for the honey. It’s almost as good as flies. Gribbit.”
32
“Gribbit?”
“Gribbit!”
33
“Roar?”
“ROAR!!!!!!!!”
