Summary-

The book describes the life of a handsome man named Dorian Gray, who is the subject of Basil Hallward’s portrait. Basil is an artist that is impressed by Dorian’s beauty. He believes that Dorian’s beauty affects the new mood in his art as a painter. After a few months, Dorian understands that his beauty will fade. He is ready to do anything so that the picture’s beauty fades and not him. The wish is accepted, and Dorian continues his life of strange and fun experiences while staying young and beautiful. All the while, his portrait ages and records every sin.

Characters-

Main character – Dorian Gray – A handsome young man and a narcissist. He is addicted to every pleasure and in fact to every ‘sin and examines its effect on him.

Secondary character – Basil Hallward – A deep moral man who painted the portrait of Dorian. With the help of Dorian’s portrait, he was able to realize his potential as a painter. The image of Dorian Gray is the best portrait Basil painted.

I liked the least the character named Lord Henry because he made Dorian more narcissistic, by causing Dorian to make the “wish”. Also, Lord Henry made Dorian think that you need to judge yourself for your beauty and not for your personality.

Recommendation-

I recommend to read this book because of a few things that I personally look for in every book.

Firstly, this book is nice to read. The book isn’t “bursting” with irrelevant information and doesn’t have so many characters, so it’s also easy to remember which role has each character in the story.

Secondly, the book presents an important message about  human behavior. With the help of Lord Henry and Dorian Gray characters, the author Oscar Wilde gets the message across to the reader. The message of the book is that in a lot of situations, we will judge ourselves and other people only by  beauty, and don’t by personality.

To sum up, I recommend to read this book because it is nice to read and presents an important massage.
