A summary of the plot

Braveheart is based on the life of  William Wallace, one of Scotland’s greatest heroes. The English King Edward I invades Scotland and makes himself its ruler. Many Scots want to fight back but need leadership, and find it when William Wallace turns to rebel, after an English sheriff kills his wife. He made an army of a few thousand men and not only defeats the English but takes the war into their own country. But the evil King Edward is not a man to be stopped so easily, and the Scottish nobles are too afraid of him, and too jealous of each other, to support William for long.  When the English return to Scotland, all William has left is his bravery and his brain.

Main character: William Wallace

Wallace was from a family of landowners, but not from a noble family.

Wallace was the son of Malcolm Wallace who was assassinated in 1291 by English forces and as a result grew up with his uncles who were churchmen, from whom he received a reading and writing education which was rare in those days. Wallace spoke French and Latin and this education helped him plan important battles later in life.

Wallace was one of the fathers of Scottish nationalism.

Wallace’s uniqueness stemmed from the fact that he came from the people and not from the nobility.

He devoted his life to the liberation of the Scottish people and it cost him his life.

Secondary character: princes isabelle

Princess Isabelle of France, who sympathizes with the Scottish and admires Wallace. She helps Wallace to face the situation during his war against Edward I and she helps Wallace to have the truce as the offering of Edward I.

The character I liked the least: Edward I

Edward I of England, the main villain.

His nicknamed is “Longshanks” because his height was over 6 feet.

The King acts like a psychopath.

He is also shown to be emotionally and physically abusive to his son. Determined to ruthlessly put down the Scottish uprising, he intends to ensure his rule over all of the Britain.

The reason I dont like this character is that he is evil and he killed so many innocent people.

Controling and winning was more important to him then his own family.

Book review:

I love the book “braveheart” and I recommend it because its an interesting book and based on a true story.

If you like adventures and action this is a book.

you can learn about a man who believed in his way and wasn’t scared to fight for it even when he lost everything he didn’t give up.

the story is about friendship, betrayal, love and war.

To sum up, everybody can find something that they can like in it (war tactics, mystery, love story, betrayal, hope…)

Explanation of the new cover:

I chose a picture that describes the Battle of “Pilkirk” in which the hero of the book leads to a confrontation between the Scots and the English army.

In this battle the great betrayal takes place which led to the defeat of the Scots in the battle but there is also the interesting turning point in the book.

The movie:

Braveheart is a 1995 American epic historical fiction war film directed and co-produced by Mel Gibson, who portrays William Wallace.
