PADLET – What is Padlet

2

Padlet is a free online “virtual wall” tool where users can express their thoughts on topics of their choice. It’s like a piece of paper, but on the web.

This digital tool can be used by teachers and students to post notes on a common page. The notes posted by the teacher and students can contain links, videos, images, and document files.

students can also upload documents they’ve created, such as class notes or completed assignments. More than one person can contribute to a Padlet wall, opening the door to teamwork and group projects. Once kids create a wall, they can share it through the usual social media ( Facebook, WhatsApp), export it to a file, embed it in a blog or website.

The benefits of Padlet :

The main benefits of Padlet are its reliable mind-mapping tool, easy-to-use and intuitive interface, and free online bulletin board solution. The mind-mapping tool helps streamline the creation of an online bulletin board that you can use to gather and exhibit data on different topics.

Other benefits:

1. Collaboration – Padlet allows for interaction between the poster and the reader. As the teacher , I can choose reaction styles: hearts , thumbs up, thumbs down , stars , smiles or assign using points.

2. No account needed – students don’t have to make an account to participate. The teacher just share them the link to the Padlet and they can access it.

3. Good design – The Padlet boards look nice and can complement visually the particular board topic.

4. Privacy – The teacher can set the Padlet to be private so it’s only accessible to the teacher’s class only or to public viewing.

Two Drawbacks of Padlet:

1. Control – the teachers have no control of what the students may type or post. It is important to teach the students the skills to give appropriate feedback to each other.

2. The lack of face-to face communication with other students.

Some students can’t or shy to participate in this communication. They need to see the teacher and the other students, it helps their focus and understanding.
