My innovation is about oral digital tools.
We wanted to find out about the relationship between self-confidence to pupils’ particiaption in EFL classroom.
In our research we want to discover if using oral digital tools (and which of them-Chatterpix or Flipgrid), can increase our pupils’ confidence and their participation.
The first digital tool is Flipgrid.
Flipgrid is an easy to use digital tool, which allows students to record videos of themselves speaking in English.
The videos can be recorded on computer or cellphone.
The teacher sets a topic and can recordor write instructions. Each student can record their response and comment on fellow student’ videos.
Advantages:
Encourages Speaking English! and:
-
Allow pupils to record themselves in privacy.
-
Easy to use- the assignments can be done on a computer or a cellphone.
-
Pupils can commend and “like” each others videos.
-
Teacher can use the one free grid for multiple topics.
-
Teacher can edit or remove student’s responses as needed
-
Provides an opportunity for pupils to learn polite social media behavior in a controlled enviroment.
-
Pupils responses can be viewed and reviewed in class easily
-
Teacher can send feedback to pupils privately
-
Pupils can re-take videos as much as they want until they got the perfect shot- an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
-
Pupils who imbarrassed to participate at class, may have the courage to participate “behind” the phone screen
Disadvantages:
-
A student without a cellphone or a computer at have may have difficulty to participate.
-
Difficult for students to record in school due to noise level. Most school computers don’t have cameras.
-
The teacher must review the posts and comments in a timely manner to monitor good digital citizenship behavior.
The second digital tool is Chatterpix.
Chatterpix is also an easy to use digital tool.
The twist on Chatterpix is that pupils don’t shooting themselves but they choose an object and decorate it as they want and they just need to record themselves.
This object’s videos can be recorded on computer or cellphone.
The teacher sets a topic and can recordor write instructions. Each student can record their response and comment on fellow student’ videos.
Advantages:
-
Allow pupils to record themselves in privacy.
-
Easy to use- the assignments can be done on a computer or a cellphone.
-
Teacher can use the one free grid for multiple topics.
-
Provides an opportunity for pupils to learn polite social media behavior in a controlled enviroment.
-
Pupils can re-take records as much as they want until they got the perfect record-gives them an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
-
Pupils who shy to participate at class, can have the courage to participate because this is behind an object and not actually their videos.
-
Develop pupils’ creativity
-
In school and in general with computers without cameras- you don’t need any(:.
Disadvantages:
-
pupils can’t comment to their friends’ videos.
-
A student without a cellphone or a computer at home, may have difficulty to participate.
-
Difficult for students to record in school due to noise level.
-
Students need to save their videos and they are not upload it to a share wall (as Flipgrid)
The End(:
