Today we will learn about different types of connectors in English that will help you achieve optimal communication

The first type of connectors 

 

Contrast – This type of connector is used to create continuity in the text between two clauses that present contradictory ideas.

However, In contrast, Whereas, Despite, On the one hand / On the other hand, Nevertheless / Still / Yet

 

For Example- I’m all out of eggs; however, I can still make us a nice breakfast.

Another type is Cause

Also known as causative connectors, these are used to explain the reason behind something.

Because, Since, Due to, On account of

For example – I ran because I was afraid.

Effect – Everything we do has a consequence. In the previous category, we discussed what causes something to happen, in this case, we’re talking about the effect or result of an action.

Therefore, as a result of and consequently

For example – The cell phone is thin and light and therefore very convenient to carry around.

Addition – These are used when you want to expand an idea by adding arguments.
