Rico Gatson was born in Georgia, the USA in 1966, He lives and works in New York.
“You are light: is an installation that represents light as a symbol of hope and strength for a better future.
The artist uses colored stripes (red, purple, orange, green, etc.) in order to create a space of calm, contemplation, and optimism.
Rico Gatson believes that young artists and young people are our hope for a much brighter future…
Let’s Watch…
What do you see? Colors, People, lines?
The people we see in Gatson’s works seem to radiate. The light does not come from some external source e.g. sun, but the light is like people produce the light themselves.
As the poet Maya Angelou writes:
“Nothing can reduce the light that shines from within”
. Gaston in his works chooses to portray people who either with their talent in music or with their physical strength (athletes) or with their speech (writers-politicians) influence the lives of other people.
LET’S START !!!
We design ourselves with what we consider that fills us with joy and makes us radiate.
e.g. For someone, it may be a musical instrument. For someone else it may be vectors they require numbers and the continued use of equals and arithmetic puzzles, etc.
BEWARE: Your paintings should not be bigger than your palm
When you finished with drawing lines, stick the figure (you made it before on a different paper, you cut it) on in any place you like.
In the paintings, we saw people in the central of the lines and in other paintings on the left side or on the downside…
The stripes start from the figure, are thin and thicken as they go up.
The strips can be from whatever paper you want…. colored cardboard, newspaper or brochure paper or whatever you think… or you can paint them or you can do a mix like color stripes, from a paper or a colorful paper…
