Quarantine
works
by Elia Paccagnella
In this book there are the school works that I have done during the quarantine from March to June due to the pandemic of the virus covid-19 with my class, a very difficult period, but now we are all good.
Exercises
We have done a lot of basic grammar exercises like listenings and readings. In fact I think that this type of exercises are needed because they help you to learn and understand english. To practice with listening we used a site called “lyricstraining” where you complete phrases of some songs, films, TV series… It’s very funny and a new way to learn. That’s the link: https://lyricstraining.com/en
Geoffrey Chaucer and the “Wife of Bath”
We studied Geoffrey Chaucer, “the father of english literature”and one of the first English poets to be known by name. He was a famous writer and he wrote “The Canterbury tales”, a narrative poem told in verse with twentyfour tales.
Of this tales we studied the “Wife of Bath”, one of the most known tales of this poem, that talk about a girl with a strange story. We did our personal storyboard of it with a program called “storyboard that” and that’s the result…
…and we also wrote our personal story of this woman.
Personally i liked this job because I very enjoyed working with a new program to do a new thing like the storyboard and because I used my creativity for invent the story.
The Canterbury Cathedral
The Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest an most famous christian churches in England. It was founded in 597 and was completely rebuilt between 1070 and 1077. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury and it’s an important centre of pilgrimage and this importance increased with the murder of the archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170 and this church contained the shrine of him. We also talked about a stained glass located in this church.
“Adam delving” is one of the oldest and most famous stained glass of 43 panels with the Ancestors of Christ (1174 AD) and is placed in the Canterbury Cathedral, originally in the clerestory, but now is located in the central light in the bottom row of the West Window. It represents Adam in the garden of heaven, and the elements like the sky, the river ecc. are a symbol of something.
Of this two arguments i preferred the stained glass because it’s a very cool type of art and because it has a specific history behind.
The great dictator’s speech
We talked about an important speech, addressed to everyone, of the famous actor Charlie Chaplin, “The great dictator’s speech” from the film “The great dictator”.
It is a very important speech because it talks about liberty and unity, a proclamation of love, freedom, equality and solidarity among men, and that’s why i liked it a lot. I advise you to listen it and to pay attention to the words, this is the link for the video:

“Eraser” by Ed Sheeran
Another important topic we talked about is the song “Eraser” of Ed Sheeran. This song is the Ed Sheeran’s reflection on his life full of positive and negative experiences. I very like this song, in fact I listened to it also before having talked about it at school, because I think that it’s a song with a great meaning and I love the words and rhythm and I recommended to listen to it and that’s the link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjGrcJ4lZCc&ab_channel=EdSheeran . For example I really love this phrase of the song:
Magna Carta
We talked about the Magna Carta Liberthatum, a royal charter of rights agreed to by King John of England at Runnymede, near Windsor, on 15 June 1215. First drafted by Archbishop of Canterbury Stephen Langton to make peace between the unpopular king and a group of rebel barons, it promised the protection of church rights, protection for the barons from illegal imprisonment, access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the Crown, to be implemented through a council of 25 barons. I personally didn’t like it very much because i think that was a littlle boring, but it’s part of the history of England and it’s important.
The black death
In this period of quarantine we talked a little about the black death, because in that period there was similar to our’s situation and we saw a documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTxPbc4iW-o&ab_channel=JoshuaStowers
“Get Up Stand Up” by Bob Marley
We listened to another beautiful song called “Get Up Stand Up” by Bob Marley. Also this song has an amazing meaning because inspires listeners to stand up and fight for their rights and it has a rhythm that I personally love. I personally think that it means to stand up for what you believe is right against the opinion of the others.

Video against stereotypes
We made an important video against stereotypes, specifically the stereotypes of our school and that’s the link and the video:https://drive.google.com/file/d/12_UBs_Ybw8itvj1Xfqe1KR2Ppfz00xOj/view?usp=sharing
In conclusion I think that in this
period of quarantine, despite
all, we have done a lot of works
and we learned new things and
in a another way and we also
learned an important lesson:
“don’t give up”
