Hi! My name is Tommy and this is my story.

My dad first told me what the first amendment was. He told me it was about the freedom of religion, press, assembly, speech, and petition. Basically, it allows people to practice their religion freely, and to speak their ideas and opinions. It gives the press the right to put the news and ideas out there. It also protects the rights of its citizens to hold meetings and petition the government. The first amendment lets me pray to whatever god I believe in! It also lets me express my ideas out to the world!

The next one he told me about was the second amendment. WOAH that’s a big word. It lets people, like my daddy, have guns. This Amendment lets my daddy protect me and Mommy from bad guys! It lets him have a gun nearby at any time in case someone wants to do something bad to us!

The next one my daddy talked about was the third amendment. This way people can’t be forced to keep soldiers in their homes during times of peace.

Another one he told me about was the fourth one. This one Protects people from unreasonable search and seizure. SO MANY BIG WORDS. It protects people from being searched without any real reasons.

My daddy told me that this one is in charge of protecting the people from being held for a crime unless accused, double jeopardy, and self-incrimination. This is the fifth amendment!

The next amendment my daddy and mommy told me about was the sixth amendment. This one is where we have the right to a fair and speedy trial. My mommy didn’t tell what that was but its fine.

HAHA, my daddy loves to joke around. Anyway, the next amendment we talked about was the seventh. This one allows people to have the right to have a trial by jury.

The next one is one that my dad talked to me about. He told me it was important manly business only. I don’t know if that is actually true but I’m gonna go with it. This is known as the ninth amendment. It means that not all rights have to be listed, it does not mean they don’t exist. By the way, you wanna know who wrote all of this stuff? James Madison. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

YAY. The final amendment talks about how power is not granted to the federal government but that it belongs to the state and the people. I LOVE THIS ONE.

This is really all my dad talked about. Now for some questions:

What document is the Bill of Rights part of?

Which amendment talks about freedom of speech?

Why was this document written?

Who wrote the amendments that became the Bill of Rights?

Who is the main character of this story?
