What are the Physical Education Standard?

The goal of physical education is to develop physically understanding individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. With Physical Education in the elementary schools children will learn at an early age the joy of being active and living a healthy lifestyle.

PE4.1 The physically educated student demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

In this standard students learn how to make dances, work in groups, and learning back to back motions in which they can use in different games. The students will also learn balancing skills and weight transformation. In this standard the students also get to work on football, soccer, volleyball, and basketball related skills.

PE4.2 The physically educated student applies the knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance.

In this standard the students gets to apply the new knowledge to other activities and grows in the movements and will get better daily. They will increase their movements in speed, endurance and placement activities.

PE4.3 The physically educated student demonstrates knowledge and skills to help achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

We will learn in this standard that warm-ups and cool-downs are very important to keep our bodies healthy. How to maintain health and fitness is key in the development for small children so they can continue to grow in their health knowledge as they age.

PE4.4The physically educated student exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Students will engage with other students to learn how to work well with others. They will also learn how to follow rules and listen while their teachers are talking. They will always work safely with all equipment in the gym.

PE4.5 The physically educated student recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

In this standard the students will go over the health benefits of participating in physical education. Also, students will realize what they enjoy and/or challenge themselves during physical activities.

My favorite PE activity is when we play basketball. I get to throw the ball to my friends and shot and make goals for my team. I get to use my dribbling and passing skills we learned at the beginning of the year, and now I am doing very well. I am more confident in my ability to ball.
