MONTE’S ADVENTURES IN CHINA 1980/1981 (PART II)

TIBET… Part II of this book covers trips to the central and southern  provinces ending with Hainan Island. I start in Tibet which was an amazing adventure.  Tibet was closed during most of my first year in China and I was finally able to visit it in the Summer of 1981 when the Tibetan government finally opened a guest house for foreign visitors.

We stayed overnight in Sanya and then headed up the center of the island which was quite mountainous. We saw a number of unexpected sights. The local people were friendly even when they found out we were Americans.
