As I walked the halls of Shenkar college, I felt like I was being watched. indeed I was. Eyes were following me wherever I went.

The faces on the wall were portraits of the students, painted by the students themselves.

And sometimes the students painted the portraits of each other.

The work was stunning, as might be expected from Shenkar design students. But who was behind the extemporaneous display? It had to be the inimitable Shir Shvadron, who has been teaching our students for almost three decades.

I was blown away by Manur’s (right) portrait of Itamar (left).

Turns out that Manur is the daughter of Jess Koren, a very famous sax player, who once was my teacher. Here we are gigging together with Michelle Green and Laurent Benarrouch.

There were more amazingly talented students.

I asked them to stand beside the portraits. The obedient and proud students did. The bashful didn’t. And I took more and more pictures of them and their lovely artwork.
