Ronnie’s Herzlia career began in 1964 when he was enrolled as a Grade 1 pupil at Herzlia, which was then based in Hope Street. The following year, the pupils who had previously been accommodated in Hope Street, were moved to the Highlands building which had been erected in 1956. The picture on the next page is the earliest picture available, connecting Ronnie to Herzlia.
Ronnie remained at Herzlia throughout his school career. Here is a picture of Ronnie’s Grade 6 class, which was then called Standard 4. This picture was taken in 1967
From Standard 6 (Grade 8), Ronnie was in the High School. In Grade 11, Ronnie participated in a school tour to King David. Unfortunately he was not involved in any sport but he accompanied the group as school reporter! Flights were expensive in those days and the group travelled by train. The first photograph shows a singalong on a station platform en route.
This photograph was taken in the King David parking lot, while on the school tour.
A highlight of his Grade 11 (Standard 9) year came about when Ronnie was selected to be editor of the school magazine, at the time, a prestigious appointment. Ronnie and his fellow students spent many hours producing the school magazine.
Finally, after 12 years, MATRIC!
Here we see the Students’ Council of 1973.
…And here we have the 1973 prefects.
And so our story of Ronnie’s school days comes to an end….at least the first chapter of the story because not many years passed before he returned to Herzlia, this time as a teacher.
