It’s our first day back in Athens, and we are hungry. We ask our friend Kostas to take us to a local place. A place where we won’t find any tourists. Like us.
Kostas obliges and takes us to his own favorite ouzeri.
2
The exterior might be plain, but the interior is anything but plain. It is cozy and choc full of bric a brac.
4
It’s a local place indeed – no menu in English!!
6
Kostas and I get cooked on tzipouro (τσίπουρο) before the fish even enter the skillet.
8
The glass bottles are as homemade as the delicious food. George (ΓΙΩΡΓΟΣ) is the proprietor. His wife Anna (ΑΝΝA) is the cook, glass bottle artist and general powerhouse.
10
We compliment her. She gives us two of her painted bottles. An auspicious start!
12
The place is like a miniature maritime museum.

The local wine is very good. We tasted all kinds. Again, the hand-painted glass. I wanted these too, but was too shy to ask…
17
The food is yummy. Kostas teaches me how to debone the small fish. I am a slow learner. But that’s ok, lots of fish to practice on.
19
Even the ice cubes are special. I ask for a doggy bag.

We had a great time. Here is the address. Please keep it a secret. We don’t want to find tourists there next time we drop by.
