Last week we had an interesting project thanks to an international collaboration with an Austrian school and my school- Liceo G.Chierici in Reggio Emilia.
The topic and the main issue for discussion among the learners from our school and the ones from Austria were talking and reflecting on the diary and masterpiece by Anne Frank.
The whole activity was run thanks to Regione Emilia-Romagna, here you can find the direct link to the main presentation of the activity

All the students had to work in English and we had two workshops. Each workshop was focussed on learning and discovering about the time and what happened while Anne Frank was hiding.
Who was Anne Frank?
Our students learnt about Anne by discussing and also watching a video in English about the time in which she lived.
My students worked well in English, also the ones who have some difficulties could follow the main tasks and worked well by collaborating in the group activities.
Anne lived in the saddest years of the XX century: it was the time when Hitler came to power and the world had to face years of wars and also mass killings. Among them we have millions of Jews. Anne would be 90 now but she died at a young age after leaving us her diary.
The students worked on images and important events that took place in the 1930s and which prepared the murdering of the Jews and people who fought the ideas which were written in the Book ” Mein Kampf” by Hitler.
Kristallnacht and the Holocaust
Why writing a Diary? What did this mean to her?
The students worked on the life of Anne and on images related to the time. They could reflect on what happened and why.
Learning by doing and reflecting. It was great to be active learners and becoming part of an event that will teach other people about Anne Frank.
The students from Liceo G.Chierici will work on the exhibition and will talk about Anne to other students and people. It will be a lesson on history and on how to work to fight ideas about racism and antisemitism. Because it happened again and we need to know that we are still facing ideas that make us become aggressive and evil.
We cannot forget what happened and Anne ‘s diary will teach us more about the values of peace and respect for everybody.

Otto Frank talking about his daughter’s diary
Anne’s wish came true and today millions of people are still reading her book and listening to her voice and hopes. Anne is still alive.
We still do need to continue building a world of peace and we are working to build bridges among different cultures and people.
