Chapter 1 – The Elimelech Family
A very long time ago, in the land of Israel , there lived family popular and rich,
to the parens say “Elimelech and Naomi” and to the childrens say Machlon and Chilion.
in these days, there was a period of famine in the Land of Israel, Elimelech who was a stingy man, decided to leave the country, because he was afraid that poor people would come for food, And as we said, he was very stingy.
God punishes him for this, and soon Elimelech is died.
Machlon and Chilion, the children of Elimelech- wanted to get married, they married Ruth and Orpah, but alas!
Shortly after the wedding Machlon and Chilion too, when they leave no children behind.
Chapter 2 – Naomi wants to return.
Ten years after moving to Moab from Israel, Naomi found herself alone and sad, Without a husband, without sons, living with two brides.
When she heard rumors that the hunger had ended and the economic situation in Israel improved- she decided to return to her homeland-land of Israel!
But, wait a minute, it is not that simple, what should Naomi do with Ruth and Orpah?
Naomi told them to back home, to their parents,
At first, they insisted on coming with her, but after much persuasion,Orpah was convinced and returned to her parents’ home,
But ruth, was insisted and wanted to go with Naomi to land of Israel and convert to Judaism,
Naomi saw Ruth’s determination and let her. Together they marched in silence, making their way to the Land of Israel.
Chapter 3: At Home, and Adjustment.
When the 2 arrived to beit lechem all the people were at the cemetery in the middle of Boaz’s wife’s funeral.Who was the leader of that time.
The people noticed two women coming to the city they Recognize Neomi but they didn’t knew who was the young women.
They started to ask each others “is that Neomi? Is this woman dressed in rags Naomi who was always dressed in beautiful clothes?”.
Neomi noticed all the looks and the whispers she said to all the city’s women :”don’t call me Neomi call me bitter because god Made my life bitter. Together with ruth she went back to her empty and abandoned house.
Chapter 4: A beggar
Poor Naomi had to start from scratch. Luckily, it was the harvest season. One of the mitzvot of the Torah says that if one or two oats are eaten immediately, it is forbidden to lift them, and it belongs to the poor (this mitzvah is called leket). During the harvest season, each group was able to find a group of beggars who ran and harvested the same crops.
Ruth went to the field, to collect grain in order to have something to eat,
in the field, she sew Boaz,
Before we continue, we should explain who is Boaz, Boaz was the leader of those days, and was also close to her family,
Boaz noticed Ruth, very quickly realized, Ruth is a very special woman!
Boaz asked his workers, “Who is this girl?”, His workers replied, “Moabite girl, Naomi’s daughter-in-law”, Boaz was very impressed from Ruth, and told her not to go to another place, and to come here every day!
Ruth was very happy!
And went to collect harvests until the end of the harvest:)
Chapter 4: Looking for a husband
Like every good mother-in-law, Naomi also had brilliant ideas. This time she thought of how she could match Boaz and her daughter-in-law Ruth.
Boaz went down to the field, sleeping at night in the threshing floor.
“Go to the threshing floor at night, after everyone has gone to bed, lay at Boaz’s feet, and when he wakes up and sees you, he will understand what you want …” Neomi said to Ruth.
When the night came Ruth crept into the threshing floor and lay down next to Boaz. Everything went as planned; In the middle of the night Boaz woke up and was horrified to see a strange woman lying next to him. “Who are you”? He asked. “I am Ruth, your servant, Please marry me”
Then he told her :”You have done well, but I will not be able to marry you, because your father, Elimelech, has a brother in the name of Tov and has the right to redeem his assets and also marry you.” Let us wait until morning and find out if he would be interested in doing so. and if he wouldn’t i’ll marry you”.
Early in the morning, he asked her to return home, before people saw the woman who came to the threshing floor.and she went happily to Neomi
In the morning, Boaz hurried to the gate of the city.
When he met his uncle well, he called to him and asked him to sit down, Boaz asked his uncle- “Naomi, your sister-in-law sold her fields, The Torah allows relatives to redeem the field, I am interested in doing so, but for you have give way, are you want do that?”
The uncle replied in the affirmative, “if so” , said Boaz, ” with the field you have to redeem Ruth, bride of Elimelech”
The unexpected turn, caused uncle to think again, this time his answer was negative.
“I do not want to marry her” Said the uncle”if you want, the privilege passes you”
And then Boaz said:”You are witnesses today that I bought what Elimelech had … and also Ruth the Moabite … I bought a wife for me!”
The excited crowd responded with congratulations. “God will give the woman who comes to your house as Rachel and Leah, who built their houses for the house of Israel …”
After the emotional wedding, Ruth got pregnant and gave birth to a son who got the name Oved. At last Naomi, the grandmother who had suffered in her life, could have been satisfied. Although he was not her biological grandchild, she raised him as he were her son
I admirer Ruth, I think Ruth is so faithful, in the story, went with Naomi to Israel, even though she could return to her parents’ home, and this could to be much easier for her, but She chooses stay faithful to Naomi. In addition, in addition, Ruth is stubborn, and does not give up her principles!
I think that Shavuot it’s a really nice thing because you can just learn Torah for the all night and it’s something that only the jews have and it’s going ina tradishen and the Torah is like an Instructor for life and we really need to appreciate this!!
