Edgar the Hooded Crow

Edgar is a Hooded Crow.  He lives in Mikve Israel, a village and Educational Center in Central Israel.

He lives with his wife and son in a tall pine tree at the edge of Nof Yaldoot’s playground.  Nof Yeldoot is a Montessorti Elementary School.

Edgar and his family usually eat fruits, insects, small mammals, reptiles and smaller birds.  About 7 years ago, Edgar learned to come to the schoolyard in the afternoon when the pupils are eating their lunches outside.  He gets even better things to eat.  He started to comes and waits for the pupils to throw him leftovers.  First Edgar came alone.

There are many Hooded Crows who live in Mikve.  Some of them noticed that Edgar was getting special food and followed him to school, but he sent them away.  He didn’t want to share.

Edgar would gather food and fly with it into the pine tree to share with his wife and son.  So They joined Edgar on the playground and they have been entertaining the pupils of Nof Yaldoot ever since.
