Before starting to make soup you must first wash your hands.
These are the steps to correct hand-washing:
- Turn on the water tap to let warm water flow.
- Wet your hands.
- Add soap to your hands and rub between your fingers, under your nails, over your thumbs and wrists. Be sure to rub for at least 20 or more seconds. This is about the time it takes to sing the ABC song!
- Rinse your hands under the running water.
- Dry your hands with a paper towel or clean dish cloth.
- Use the paper towel to turn off the tap.
It is important that you do not use your CLEAN hands to turn off the dirty tap!
Next, you must clean the counter where you will be working.
Use a clean cloth to wipe away any dirt.
To cook safely, you must also tie back long hair, roll up your sleeves and put on a clean apron.
Next, you gather your utensils and ingredients.
You will need the following kitchen utensils:
- cutting board
- Chef’s knife
- soup pot with lid
- stirring spoon
- ladle
