My dear grandson, today I will tell you one of the many events I have experienced as a boy, but I will tell you as if you were reading it from a book.
After saying this, the three boys awaited the arrival of the doctor, Dr. Ross, who was Jim’s family doctor and a great friend of his. The doctor had tended Tom, took out the bullet and treated him. The doctor wanted Tom to stay at the hospital for a few days, but the boys knew they could not stay there because they would recognize them.
So, a few days after Tom’s recovery, they left immediately and found a family of hunters who lived in the woods, and welcomed them willingly. For about a week they stayed there, where they had food, a bed and a shelter, but they had only one goal, and they were forced to leave.
The hunter family had given him food and water for another week of travel, so entering seven days would have to find another place to stop. Meanwhile Tom’s uncles had sent men to look for the three boys throughout the city, but Tom, Jim and Huck were already far away, but in Saint Louis, a small town on the border between Illinois and Missouri, they were stopped by mysterious men.
Once they told them who they were and what they were intending to do, the men looked at each other and began to chase them to capture them, because they understood that they were Tom, Jim and Huck. In the escape, Huck was taken and taken away by a van, and Jim and Tom tried in vain to chase the van. The men brought Huck to Carbondale, where there were entrepreneurs with the intention of buying them as slaves.
Suddenly, as they walked on the edge of a road, Jack came, a friend of Tom’s who worked for those men, and he said to them, “I know where they brought Huck.” The two got into the car and left for Carbondale. Arrived in an old abandoned gym, the three immediately saw Huck, who had his hands tied and his mouth closed by a tape.
Jack had a rifle with him, and the boys broke in and while Jack kept the mysterious men busy, Jim and Tom managed to untie Huck. The boys fled, but Jack was hurt and died shortly thereafter. They managed to get Jack’s car, and Tom set out to drive, even if he could not. The three managed to escape, but if they continued in the car, they would be seen again.
Once in the town of Tamms, they decided to leave the car and continue on foot, even though the road was still very long. During the journey, they stopped again, this time in an orphanage in Mound City. Life was perfect for them, during the day they had fun around and in the evening they went back to the orphanage to have dinner and sleep. In a few days they visited all of Mound City, and they were surprised because they had never seen such a big city.
After about two weeks Huck fell in love with Sally, a girl who lived there, even though Jim and Tom knew that if Huck got engaged to Sally, it would be much harder to leave for Cairo. It happened just what the two did not want, in fact Huck got engaged to Sally, but when it came time to leave, he did not want to leave her for any reason.
After two days they decided together what to do, and Sally, who did not want to leave her parents, but not even Huck, decided to leave with them to Cairo. Once in Cairo, the three boys and Sally lived their entire lives there, Huck and Sally got married, and everyone got a good job and created a family, remaining forever friends.
