Fortunately the men that came after us decided

to return to their home, so I and my friends were save.

It was important to call a doctor because Tom’s leg

hurt and bled.

At least Tom accepted and I went to the nearest village.

Jim waited for me, he stayed with Tom.

I dressed like an old man,like a beggar: I didn’t want to be recognized.

Meanwhile Jim and Tom were hidden among the trees.

While Jim used the sleeve to bandage Tom’s leg, I went to the doctor’s house and knocked to his door.

I explained what was happened; I said to him it was very important to go fast but at first the man didn’t want to follow me.

I persuaded him, I promised to give to the doctor any coins I hidden not far from the village.

So the doctor accepted and together came back to the river.

When we arrived he medicated the wound.

Tom didn’t want to go to the hospital and stayed there with us.

After few days Tom got better so we decided to start again our journey.

We wanted go down the river and reach Cairo.

We want to accompany Jim there : he must be a free man

When it was dark we travelled on the canoe.

First we reach Jefferson city.

Tom thought it was Illinois, but it was Missouri.

The journey took a week, we were tired and angry, so we decided to hid the canoe and to visit the town.

We needed food and something to drink.

We had no much money so we couldn’t buy many things

First we washed into the river and we wore clean clothes.

We were excited …

But the main plan was to reach Illinois …Jim must be free.

So we took the canoe and moved off down the river.

Two weeks later finally we sow a town on the left side of the river…

I didn’t believe to my eyes.

Illinois was there … Jim was save.

We went off the canoe and all together kissed the ground.

It was a great day!!!

I remember that day … even if we were happy that day we had to say goodbye to Jim.

I and Tom let Jim there and we returned to our house.

Now Jim is married with a young and beautiful girl and and he has got two children.

He has got a piece of land and grows plants.

Tom is an important man, he is a sailor , He loves the adventures and with his work he travels around the world.

And  I ? Dear reader, you ask me what I have done after

that day …

Well, I came back to Miss Wattson’s house.

She was very happy to see me again.

I lived with her for many years and i started again to attend

the school.

Now  I’m a writer and you are reading my first adventure book…
