Earth Day

My mother, Madeleine,

                                            has gone completely mad.

                                            She is so busy with trash,

                                             I just don’t understand. 

                                   She separates plastic, glass and paper.

                                          She separates glass and tin.

                                           She separates batteries too.

                          The compost in the garden is very smelly.

                                       It is for food waste.                                                                                    Some animals eat from it: birds, cats and mice.

                                 Sometimes our dog Taco,

                            wants to eat from the compost,

                               but he’s too small to jump in. 

                                My mother never asks me to 

                                throw away the compost. Yuckk…
