“That was the night I realized that I love you.”

“You love me?”

“It was two in the morning. I left the jazz club on my way back to the hotel. I was carrying my sax and had two thousand dollars in my pocket.”

“You love me?”

“I got confused by the winding streets and ended up in a rough neighborhood. The road narrowed and there were these two tough guys on either side. Waiting for me as I walked towards them.”

“You love me?”

“Well, I thought this was the end. But as I approached they took a step back and let me pass. I made it back to the hotel drenched in sweat.”

“You love me?”

“So I looked in the mirror. I was still wearing my double sax strap. I guess they figured that I was packing a gun under my jacket.”

“So that’s when you decided that you love me?”

“I realized that if I made it out in one piece, then I would ask you to marry me. The next day I even went out and bought a ring with the money.”

But that was three years ago!

I thought I lost it. It was here. Right here in the reed box. In the saxophone case. I never played sax again. Till this evening.

He got down on one me and opened his hand.

So darling, will you marry me?
