“That was the night I realized that I love you.”
“You love me?”
2
“It was two in the morning. I left the jazz club on my way back to the hotel. I was carrying my sax and had two thousand dollars in my pocket.”
“You love me?”
3
“I got confused by the winding streets and ended up in a rough neighborhood. The road narrowed and there were these two tough guys on either side. Waiting for me as I walked towards them.”
“You love me?”
4
“Well, I thought this was the end. But as I approached they took a step back and let me pass. I made it back to the hotel drenched in sweat.”
“You love me?”
5
“So I looked in the mirror. I was still wearing my double sax strap. I guess they figured that I was packing a gun under my jacket.”
“So that’s when you decided that you love me?”
“I realized that if I made it out in one piece, then I would ask you to marry me. The next day I even went out and bought a ring with the money.”
6
But that was three years ago!
I thought I lost it. It was here. Right here in the reed box. In the saxophone case. I never played sax again. Till this evening.
7
He got down on one me and opened his hand.
So darling, will you marry me?
