Deganit’s Story
My parents came to Israel from Morroco in 1947. My father was born in a small village Zefrou (near Fez). Even when he was a little child he insisted on going to learn at Alliance – a non-religious school where he could learn many more subjects such as mathematics and the French language while the other option for him was to learn in the Jewish “Heder” – where they taught only religious subjects.
When he graduated he went to the big city of Casablanca and worked as a tailor while studying bookkeeping at nights and soon after he became a bookkeeper and so it happened that once he immigrated to Israel he got a job of a bookkeeper while his brothers were burning in the sun in road paving.
My father had a motto in his life and that is to always pursue education and knowledge. He gave me that motto and always pushed me to excel in my studies.
