It was a warm and sunny day

all the kids wanted to do was play.

My friends and I were playing four-square

we played for hours and didn’t have a care.

Hey look at that! Across the street!

My friends and I saw something neat.

What we saw was a hive of bees

nesting in one of my neighbor’s trees.

Then out walked my neighbor Chad.

We all knew this was going to be bad.

Chad was always getting into trouble.

Well today he was going to hit a double.

In his hand was his favorite metal bat

he went over to the tree to give it a pat.

Chad swung his bat with all his might

the bees didn’t even put up a fight.

Chad was scared! He ran straight home!

We didn’t notice we were in the four-square zone.

My little brother was winning the game

he didn’t want to quit- that would be lame!

My neighbor screamed from the top of her lungs

Her words scared us, like the sound of loud drums.

“THE BEES BROKE! THE BEES BROKE!

THIS ISN’T A JOKE! THIS ISN’T A JOKE!”

My friends and I ran to my home

my parents were upstairs; we felt alone.

My neighbor followed the bees with her car

she was smart she knew they’d go far.

My neighbor came to see if we were okay

after she left we moved on with our day.

Today was such a crazy day, the day of the bees

so be careful how you treat things- treat them with ease.
