One morning, Mrs Winefred Fussypants was in the park, fretting and fussing all about.
“What could be the matter?” thought Dilly Duck. “I simply must go and find out.”
2
“Fi-diddle, hum-diddle, hey-diddle dee!” the swan said. “I need a house for the mister and me!”
“Oh, let me help!” offered Dilly. “We’ll find you a house. Just come and see!”
And off they went.
4
“Which color do you like?” asked Dilly when several houses came into view.
“Oh, I’m not picky,” she replied as she flapped her wings. “Any color will do.”
6
“Tangerine orange?” inquired Dilly.
8
“Sea shell pink?”
10
“Tell me, Mrs Fussypants. What do you think?”
The swan shook her head and gave Dilly a side-long glance.
“None of these houses make me happy-hip-happity dance.”
12
Dilly kept trying.
13
“Sunshine yellow?”
15
“Periwinkle blue?”
“Which of these habitats is just right for you?”
17
Mrs Fussypants was getting upset.
“Fi-diddle, hum-diddle, no-diddle dee! None of these are just right for me!”
Dilly pressed on.
19
“Single-decker?”
20
“Double-decker?”
22
“Tripple-decker too!”
Dilly pointed and said,
“This one even has windows up top for you!”
24
Just one look, just one glance and Dilly knew that the swan was not doing a happy dance.
“I do believe I have your problem figured out,” said her friend. “We can bring this to a very swift end.”
26
“What ever could you mean?” the beautiful white swan inquired. She swam up to her husband who said, “Good, Winefred! I really am growing tired!”
27
“It’s really quite simple,” said Dilly with a smile.
“The answer has been here all the while.”
29
“This place has a pond, and what a view!
And there’s lots of room for your friends too!”
30
“Welcome home,” said Dilly and Mrs Fussypants was as happy as ever
in the pond,
in the park,
exactly where she had grown up.
