Billy Elliot is a succeful and loved musical that was presented in many countries all around the world.

The musical is based on a movie with the same title that came out in September 29th 2000. The premier of the musical was in West End, London in 2005.

In the summer of 2016 was the first time this musical was shown in Israel. As teenagers who appreciate theater and love it very much, we went to watch the show (even twice!)

The story is about Billy, a young boy who lives in a small town in north England. He lives with his older brother, father (who are miners) and his old grandmother, a few years after his mother died. The whole plot happens in 1984-1985 when there’s The Miners’ Strike in England, which effects Billy’s family and the whole town directly.

In the musical Billy decides-in the encouragement of the local community center’s Ballet teacher- to learn how to dance, and even tries to get accepted to The Royal Ballet School. All of this happens without his family’s awareness, and against the society’s ideals of that time.

Billy also has a friend named Michael. He likes to wear dresses and do things that considered as “girly” things. This was worth mentioning because this is an important detail that leads to the rest of the plot. This character adds another point of view to the viewer of the play, and promoting the transferring of the messege more strongly.

We recommend watching this musical very much! This is a high quality production with a very professional level of directing, acting, singing, and (of course!) dancing.

Furthermore, there are many important lessons we can learn from this story, which comes with important values such as freedom, the importance of the working class, listening to your heart and following it even if it requires fighting hard and dealing with different difficulties and the judgmental society.

Adi:

As a person who has been dancing since she was a little girl, I really wanted to watch this musical. I watched it once, and liked so much that I decided to take Lior with me(and with another friend) to the second time as a birthday-surprise-present for her. Both of us were really excited about it, and this is why it was very easy for us to agree that this is a great subject for us.

Working in pairs was very great, specifically because Lior is a good partner with very creative mind and ideas.

Lior:

The work in pairs  was awesome, because for me, at least, it’s more easy to work with another person. when I work alone it takes me a lot of time to finish because of my ADHD, but if I have another person with me it keeps me focused on the work and helps me to think more clearly. This way, I can be more productive. Working with Adi was great because we get along and we also add more different ideas which add more quality to the work.  I liked working with ourboox.com and I think this website is really cool, I might even start using it for other things, because it is very comfortable to work with.

Explenation for the photos & the video:

After we watched the play we really wanted to meet Shon(Billy’s actor) and all the other stars, so we went to the door that was the exit from the back-stage, and waited until they came out. It was very fun and everyone was very nice(and even stayed a little bit longer to talk to us instead of running away to their bus). That was so unexpected because we thought they would be snobs and would tell us to go away like all the famous people does.

BTW: the last video is a must watch!!
